The last "be nice to me or [charactername] gets it!" tweet I had shoved in my face the same way tells me that a certain character will not die at least until the show catches up with the current progress of the books. When someone spoiled the fate of the same character for me earlier in the series several extremely tense scenes lost ALL tension. Now I have several seasons to slog through knowing that NEITHER character will be in any real danger. At this rate of spoilers, I'll know all of the current characters that are still alive by the end of next season and will be able to tell who dies by exclusion.

The Reaper's motivations can be summed up in one sentence:

The Organic and Synthetic races will go to war at some point in the future so we murder everyone before that and make giant robots from their guts so their racial identities are preserved.

I'm not shitting you. That's their motivation. The whole "beyond mortal understanding" line is basically writer speak for "we couldn't come up with a good reason for why this character is doing this."

To be fair, the moment you knew the Reapers reasoning, even if the writers had been at the top of their game and the Reapers reasoning had been completely plausible, they still would have been less threatening as villains. Clearly they were their most threatening when you didn't know why they did what they did, all you knew is that they destroyed everything in their path. That made them scary and unpredictable like a hurricane. You can't negotiate with a hurricane. But the more you understand about your enemy, the less scary they become.
