I don't think the intention is to mislead people into thinking The Big Bang Theory is a 'smart' show. It just wants to show that 'LOL, look, funny sitcom shit happens to nerds, too!'

It's basically what would happen if you sat Tyler Perry down and asked him to make one of his shows, except replace the black people with nerds. Result: a show that is less racist but still completely unfunny. And annoying to the actual nerds that it mimics with 'nerd blackface.'
