^ the actual answer is that the word "Yom" which is translated "day" is also a synonym for the concept "Period of work"; just as the words translated "morning" and "evening" can also be translated "beginning of a period of work" and "end of a period of work". Tradition holds that the present translation is correct; but it only takes the first paragraph of the bible to realize the traditional translations are crap and no-one ever though it 1) was literal (concept didn't even exist until a more modern era!) and 2) taking about 6 24hour days.... that is until modern 'christians' (starting with the 11th century Catholic Church on though King James, and then the christian right) started re-intepreting scripture to mean whatever served to perpetuate their power.
