Yeah. Remember that. When I first watched that movie I actually thought it was a very interesting and even remotely possible idea.
One thing to note about many of the polytheistic religions is many of them are local flavors of the same gods.
Look up Indo-European religion.
Oh, believe me, I know, which is why I find it remotely plausible.
Gods from the Sumerians, Akkadians, Babylonia, etc etc, through to the Canaanites and ancient Hebrews, many of the gods all shared almost identical personifications. I think the changes over time, following the plausible ET theory, probably become less involved, so the stories drifted and become more intriguing and rife with drama.
This is not for this thread, however. I just wanted to make a quip about the idea.
