This pic is amazing to me.
I was in Hawaii for my uncles funeral some years ago. We had a service for him on Oahu where he lived, but his wife wanted to lay him to rest on the Big Island where others in the family were. After all that, some friends and relatives were trying to cheer us up and took us out to see some sights, Kilauea among them.
I was able come within 12-15ft of the magma, no more, before I felt like I was going to burst into flames. The soles of my shoes felt like chewed bubblegum. I walked away from that feeling slightly stupid at giving it a shot.
Hat's off to the guy in that pic! That is an amazing show of will power to me! Also, and you don't get this from the pic, but it is incredibly hard to breathe when you are that close. The heat is so overwhelming and with the sulfurous scorched smell I'm just not sure how that guy was able to stay there and focus his shit (while it and he are on fire no less). Just, wow. I want to shake that guys hand.
