I do wonder about that sometimes: Why is it so horrifically and consistently difficult to make a decent progress indicator?
From 0% to 99%: 8 seconds.
From 99% to finished: 90 seconds.

Large files transfer fast, very small files hit the limits of random read or write speeds that are often insanely slow in comparison to a drive's top read or write speeds. Large files tend to be among the first to transfer and then you hit the speed wall with the small files.
