I file those under the same category as all those who love to say "fake news" at everything: purposefully crude, intolerable, and impossible to convince otherwise because every piece of evidence you offer is met with the same resistance and sometimes claims of appealing to authority. End result is the same, they'll never believe a shred of evidence.

Hopefully the Trumpians can be convinced unlike the deniers - but history demonstrates this is unlikely.

Back in the early 90s, fractal generation / Mandelbrot set exploration programs were a big thing. Unfortunately the hardware really wasn't up to the task. With modern video cards, I would think that this type of program would fly. Anyone know of a good one? The times I've looked, all I seem to get are really sketchy websites.

I'm not so sure about that in the land of unions around here. I am curious about the validity of the cost though... that seems low to me.

1) I used to work in a sign shop. We would have charged a guy off the street ~$600 for a 4x10' steel sign. If your DOT isn't outsourcing the signs to Kinko's or something, their costs are probably much (MUCH) lower.

2) A few years back, our local city council dude was griping on the radio about stolen speed limit signs, saying they cost about $150 to replace (including labor.) They're smaller and cheaper to make (probably ~$20 each for the sign itself) but replacing a big sign on an existing frame isn't all that much more work than replacing a small sign, unless they've gotta close a lane or something for safety reasons.

I don't know how much your local road crews are making, but I think when it comes to highway signs, the .gov makes it up on volume.
