Why is the guide bar upside down. And how long? 2 stroke? What sort of kickback do you get with such a long bar?

You flip the bar to distribute wear. It gets more wear on the bottom than the top, so you change the position of the "bottom" every so often. Pretty much all saws are either electric(usually small homeowner saws) or 2stroke. It's a 36" bar. Kickback tends to be reduced with longer bars cause the length and weight acts as a dampener, but it still isn't a good situation.
