Once upon a time, I considered myself to be the kind of person who'd stick with a book through thick and thin partly because I felt that reflected well on me as a person and partly because it might turn out to be a good read in the end. Then I tried to read Moby Dick (Star Trek: First Contact really sold it to me). I really tried, initially reading with care page after page of pure whale trivia, then skipping ten pages at a time of random whale factoids in the hope that the book would get back to the point. After that, if a book is boring me, I find something more interesting to read. Life is too short to be bored to tears.

Can't disagree about Moby Dick (that and "On The Road" are two major books I never managed to finish, due to sheer boredom), but I quite liked Frankenstein. Definitely on the more accessible end of the scale.

On the subject of Dracula

I want to see a "control group" test, to see if they are genuinely reacting to the conjuring trick or if it's just a generic reaction to the hand movements. Am now genuinely curious as to to what extent they (our fellow primates) follow what's going on sufficiently to be surprised by it.

That last one, who seemed to find the whole trick utterly hilarious, is particularly striking.

Seems it may have something to do with "mirror neurons"

I had a Philly cheesesteak hotdog yesterday. It was exactly as you are imaging: a Philly cheesesteak with all the fixings on top of a hotdog. It was pretty good.
