Well, he's a starting quarterback for one of the top ranked schools in college football. Assaulting the coach would get him kicked off the team, and he'd lose his scholarship, which means presumably get kicked out of that school. The NCAA would probably revoke his eligibility for at least a year, so he'd be out for that as well. And it's likely that no school would want to take him on after that. So he'd go from having a legitimate opportunity to go to the NFL where he'd earn a minimum salary of hundreds of thousands of dollars to having basically the same chance as you or I of making a professional sports team.
In short, retaliating against the coach for a verbal barrage would have ended any hope he had of playing professional football and making boatloads of money. I'm glad you value your honor so highly that you'd gladly sacrifice your future to enact immediate revenge on someone who was mean to you.
