the problem with groceries is most people want to be able to touch and feel the produce they get.

one major advantage amazon has is they're in the fulfillment business. they don't need to do all the sourcing and they also make money from storage/fulfillment and a % off the top.

Some of you need to get the fack out of Cali and NY. You hate pretty much everything about them, yet continue to live in those overrated expensive crowded places.

I guess maybe that's why I don't see some of the value in things (such as Amazon) that others do. Where I live is cheap, quiet, not crowded, I can still go to a movie theater and enjoy it. The downside? There isn't 24/7 in my face external entertainment at my fingertips around the corner. I have to actually entertain myself on occasion. Another words, most people would consider where I live boring.

You sound like a boring person.

Their diaper prices blow everything else out of the water. Wish I saw the google code before placing the order.

let's share any deals we find. they give deeper discounts when you fill your box up. sometimes their algorithm gets messed up so you can get some good deals.

might as well milk it while you can. I wonder if they autoprice their items using a repricing algorithm? I have a seller account on amazon. I could try to mess around with the prices of some low volume items.

I was just pointing out peoples thoughts that Amazon was the be all end all of convenience and cheapness aren't necessarily universal. One example is the person above talking about waiting in 30 deep lines at the grocery store.

So because of where you live and your own preferred lifestyle, you don't find the convenience of online shopping of any value to you. That's totally fine with me. But do you really need to go into every online shopping thread on here and make the same point over and over? I know you like being bored from your other post, but come on...

Anyway, back on topic. Took a quick look at the jet.com website but so far not seeing the value that they bring to the table based on the $50 annual fee. Let's see if they can evolve to make it even more appealing.

My biggest issue is going to the grocery store. I fucking hate it. The more I go, the more people there are with more lines and a 30 minute buying trip turns into 1.25 hours. Obviously there isn't enough competition because new grocery stores aren't opening to accommodate all the people.

So until these websites completely stop my weekly grocery store trips it's all just meh.

Buy bulk, go off-peak, get fresh from farm market/green grocer instead of supemarket, look into delivery service, grow your own.

look at the smaller stuff. they increase discounts when you fill box to use more of the space or maybe it's because they have to order from less places to fulfill your order. instant coffee, hair gel, Qwest bars have some good discounts. I'll probably order some stuff if I can hit the $35 free shipping threshold and use the google code for a free year.

take advantage of it while it's good. you might even be able to resell stuff from jet on amazon. (and then they'll end up buying it back from you to source their orders lol)

I've found that one can dramatically improved their store going experience (similar to Target vs Walmart) by going to nicer grocery stores like Whole Foods, Central Market or Market Street. I lived a mile from a Central Market in San Antonio and virtually all my shopping there, and never had to wait in line to check out. Anything that I couldn't get there (ie cleaners that aren't made from biodegradable positive emotions) I would get at Target. Going to a "normal" grocery store like HEB, Walmart, or even the military commissary would leave me angry and frustrated at how incredibly stupid, slow and inconsiderate most people are in the grocery store. Blocking entire aisles, puzzling for extended periods over simple choices, standing (or worse sitting in one of those god damn motorized scooters) and chatting with someone they know, or letting their kids run wild through the store.

I've only been to the grocery store (commissary at Pearl Harbor) once since I arrived here last month, but it was a cluster fuck of epic proportions. Dependapotamuses everywhere, blocking the aisles while they chatted and their kids pushed over displays. There's a Safeway near my new apartment, but it appears to be overrun with idiots as well, as observed during my short stops at the Starbucks there. There's also a nearby "Foodland" but just the name turns me off there. And then there's a whole foods at a nearby mall (weird, right?) that is crammed into a tiny space and full of the hippiest bunch of hipsters you've ever seen in your life.

Of course, I don't see delivery groceries coming to Hawaii anytime soon, so I guess I'm boned.

You've read a few posts by me about my disenchantment about Amazon. I am a deal hunter. I buy way too much online. Amazon is rarely the cheaper bet (but they are getting somewhat better). I simply point out the flaws in the blind following based on what looks like laziness. Which once again was coming up in this thread. I have nothing against Amazon in general, and what I said earlier in the thread was really just tongue in cheek.

As for Jet.com. I won't scoff at competition but they have their work cut out for them. Amazon got what, 2 or 3 bailouts before they started actually making money. I doubt these guys get the same luxury.

Right now I'm pricing a set of these, unfortunately Amazon don't sell them

Last time I went to a Whole foods (which is towards the center of town, I'm in the outskirts/suburbs, so it's far away for me), it wasn't that much better. It still had a line. Mostly from being in the center of the town - There were still plenty of people. There were still people that made my eyes roll except it was less of the "People of Walmart" type and more of the "Hipster trying to stand-out" type.

The only other major difference? Everything cost 1.5x as much as well.

Finally, someone else gets it. I mean, I try to be like everyone else and not pay attention - but it just takes up too much time as I said. A 30 minute trip turns into a 1.25 hour trip because people are just plain fucking stupid. It's not hard to look in your view and see people are coming. I'm right next to my cart. I should move my fucking cart or move my fat ass so someone can get by eh?

I shouldn't need to tell someone "Hey dumbass, you're in the way of 5 other people trying to get by". It's just plain logic when you have to share space. You already said enough in regards to stupid parents with stupid kids running around that they don't even try to control..

After the farce that was Prime Day, plenty of disgruntled customers would love to find another online store to patronize rather than reward Amazon for its bait-and-switch tactics.

lol, what a stupid opening paragraph. Yeah, Prime Day wasn't spectacular, but I don't think the author knows what "bait-and-switch" means.

I think Jet has some good ideas. Save by buying more, save by waiving a return option. Discounts on other sites if you shop through Jet (yes, you can do that lots of places but I think it's smart to offer it at a place you're already shopping).

Jet has said they target customers looking for value, and Amazon targets convenience. I'm the type that would buy items at Jet when I don't need a return privilege or 2-day shipping if it saves a few bucks. But I don't buy enough online to justify paying for a membership.

Sorry - is Amazon expensive, or ripping people off?

I am not saying no to competition, but what is Amazon doing wrong, that Jet is doing right and force Amazon to correct itself??

I'm tired of slooooow order processing because I'm not a prime member. I don't expect 2 day shipping, but when an item has a same day delivery option, it's f'ing stupid that it takes 3-4 days for my order to process before it ships. I also don't expect my processing to be as fast as Prime members, but it shouldn't be 3-4 days slower either. They do this so I'll sign up for Prime, I understand that's how business'es operate but it's shitty. There's really no reason an item I order at 8AM on a Monday doesn't get processed until Thursday and ships out MAYBE Friday. This has happened more and more to me in the past 6 months. Newegg, bodybuilding, com, autogeek.net and most of the other sites I regularly order from pretty much always have my order processed and shipped out the same day, usually in a few hours. Bodybuilding.com's about 19/20 for having my shit at my door the next day and they're not even in my state. Newegg's about 49/50. Yeah they all do a lot lot less business, but Amazon has a fuck-ton more employees. Autogeek.net will even upgrade me to 3 days shipping for free if I ask and I'll get a package ordered on Monday (they're in FL) delivered to me in Cal on Wed, like clock work. Non Prime on Amazon? I've got shit 2 days after ordering it, and I've had shit take 10 days. Many of the items offer same day shipping (warehouse is about 20 miles from me) so it's not a distance thing.

I don't think I've really had this issue as a non prime member. My stuff when purchased from Amazon directly usually gets to me within 3-5 days. Is it external sellers that you are seeing that with?
