Would be a lot better if Jet offered a non-membership model.

But yes, competition is good.

Sorry - is Amazon expensive, or ripping people off?

I am not saying no to competition, but what is Amazon doing wrong, that Jet is doing right and force Amazon to correct itself??

When a Jet customer buys items that aren’t in its inventory or available from partner merchants, a Jet employee buys the items from another website and has them shipped directly to the customer. That is expensive for Jet because the company often pays high shipping costs plus any difference between its advertised price and the amount charged by the outside website.

I wonder what their average customer acquisition cost is.

There are cheaper ways of doing things than what Amazon does. For example Amazon offers free Prime 2 day shipping for any size order. This costs money. Lots of people are willing to accept slower, cheaper shipping. And the shipment of a $5 item is expensive (conversely Jet requires a $35 minimum). Credit cards are more expensive to process than debit cards. Jet passes the cost savings for debit cards to its customers--Amazon doesn't. So a Jet customer is much more likely to use a debit card. Shipping from a nearby location is cheaper than shipping across the country. Jet is set up to take advantage of this fact from its suppliers; Amazon isn't.

Meh, competition and all that jazz, but I haven't gotten used to getting groceries online. What's the point unless the price is lower? Sometime it might be, but the majority of it isn't due to shipping/overhead (inb4 FREE SHIPPING!!!)

So I can order TP and paper towels and laundry detergent online. So what? I still can't buy fresh produce. Or meat. Or anything that goes with normal day to day cooking. So fuck it. I don't see the point.

Never heard of Jet, but upon visiting their website ... they really need an overhaul before I buy anything there. It's atrocious.

My biggest issue is going to the grocery store. I fucking hate it. The more I go, the more people there are with more lines and a 30 minute buying trip turns into 1.25 hours. Obviously there isn't enough competition because new grocery stores aren't opening to accommodate all the people.

So until these websites completely stop my weekly grocery store trips it's all just meh.

If you live alone there probably is not. Having a family, I see value.

Fresh food for cooking is a stop by after work shopping chore. In and out quickly. Start adding all the dry goods and household supplies we use, and sometimes I need 2 carts and a fair amount of time. Instead of a hand basket. Then there is the loading and unloading of everything from the vehicle.

Now, I can point and click while I am sitting here, and in 2 days prime it is at the side door of the house. I saved time and gas. Because the big trips ain't happening after work. Which means an extra drive and longer shopping trip on a weekend.

Oh and certain things I cannot get here. The closest Cosco is over 50 miles away, but I can get some of their Kirkland products this way.

Some of you need to get the fack out of Cali and NY. You hate pretty much everything about them, yet continue to live in those overrated expensive crowded places.

I guess maybe that's why I don't see some of the value in things (such as Amazon) that others do. Where I live is cheap, quiet, not crowded, I can still go to a movie theater and enjoy it. The downside? There isn't 24/7 in my face external entertainment at my fingertips around the corner. I have to actually entertain myself on occasion. Another words, most people would consider where I live boring.

You entire state has about 3 times the population of Orlando. Hence, your state IS boring. Make no mistake about it.

That is not a bad thing, but you have made no cogent argument of what that has to do with the topic.

Too weird, I was looking at this thread. Went to look at Jet, say the homepage and clicked out of there. Then an e-mail showed up from Jet Inc saying they were sending me stamps. My wife was talking about ordering some, she must have.

Weird timing.

It's called business. Someone develops something and it dominates. Someone develops something to directly compete with that dominator.... If they do a good job then amazon falters. If you haven't noticed Amazon's sales have been slumping.

I was just pointing out peoples thoughts that Amazon was the be all end all of convenience and cheapness aren't necessarily universal. One example is the person above talking about waiting in 30 deep lines at the grocery store.

Membership fee? No thx.

And Amazon can just undercut them on everything to drive them out of business and then raise their prices again.

I'm not familiar with Jet but there seems to be a way (with a possible catch) to get a free 6 or 12 month membership. Do a search for jet membership at slickdeals.net.
