I'm in. Although I do have experience landing F-16s on a simulator. And when I say simulator, I mean Top Gun on the NES.

1500 hours would be hard to do outside of past military on the job experience as a pilot, or at extreme personal financial cost on the individuals part.
And THERE lies the fine-print in the deal.
This is not some on the job training opportunity by any means.

Which makes you more than qualified to fly commercial aircraft because that is an elite achievement that which many real pilots fail to accomplish.

You pay your own way;
You fly for small carriers;
When done and qualified, you hope to get picked up by one of the big boys, including Jetblue.

So, not that awesome.

This is how it works right now for a lot of pilots building time. They will push these guys off onto local charters flying turbo props or medical emergency flights. They pay them, but they also have to pay for the flight time. It is an amazing racket and have seen it first hand. And then even when they get on with a major they are paid like crap as a co pilot. NWA was paying 19\hour for co pilots on their regional jets about 12 years ago. Captains were being paid 50\hour. I am sure it is more now, but highly unlikely it is more than inflation.

yea being a commercial pilot is a tough gig. you dont make the big bucks until you have some serious seniority with your airline and are flying heavies.

until then you are paid dog shit and will have zero home life due to countless hours being shuttled to different cities to fly a 1 hour flight.

Should be grateful. Most Americans enjoy pay adjustments below the rate of inflation, if not fewer dollars outright compared to what their profession paid a couple decades ago.

According to data for 14 regional airlines, the average new pilot’s hourly wage is about $24 per hour, the report says. But the Air Line Pilots Association estimates that the average starting salary is even lower than that — $22,500 per year, which for a 40-hour work week equals an hourly rate of $10.75. Unsurprisingly, 11 of the 12 regional airlines the GAO interviewed reported difficulties filling entry-level first-officer vacancies.

“You just can’t find people to work for those wages,” says Helane Becker, a managing director at Cowen and Company who covers airlines.
As The Atlantic put it last year, pilots regularly take on “$200,000 in debt for a job that pays $22,914 per year, to start.”

Capt. "Sully" Sullenberger (the pilot who safely landed the jet in the Hudson River) had testified in Congress that no pilot he knows wants any of their children to become a pilot. Pilots, he said, are completely demoralized. He spoke of how his pay has been cut 40% and his own pension eliminated...
Knew that the situation wasn't good.

Didn't know that it was this bad...

Well of course his pension was gutted. Americans have been bombarded with the idea that anyone getting a pension in today's day and age is to be demonized.

Perfect time to introduce an H1B program for pilots since in the next few years they will start crying about a lack of employees applying, "not finding skilled workers to fill ranks."

OP title very mis-leading and incorrect.

"...required 1,500 hours of flying time." Not sure how you're going to have/get those hours unless you're already a regional/private pilot or ex-military. Also, the following stipulations are still cited:

  • Prospective pilots would have to pay for their own training
  • Prospective pilots wouldn’t immediately work for JetBlue, but rather would work for a smaller airline (maybe something like Cape Air), and once they have enough hours they could apply to work at JetBlue
  • Once training is completed, pilots could choose to apply at other airlines

I would love this opportunity! I already know the basics. LOL I can program a Honeywell (can't remember the specific model off hand) 737NG FMC with SIDS & STARS, program a holding pattern, intersect a radial from a VOR, etc. I can read aeronautical charts. I know basic weather concepts. Basically I'm what you call a real as it gets Flight Simulator pilot. I just don't jump in my PMDG 737NG and take off. I have EVERYTHING! And do everything. I even have flight attendant and pilot announcements for all stages of flight. From push back, to take off and landing.

And since I use REX in FS that downloads real life weather conditions I look at the NOAA weather data and plan my cruising altitude.

Even flown in VATSIM.

So to summarize. If a few Jihadies can fly a plane, I could do it. Would love to test my skills in a real life 737NG simulator. A CATIII landing would be awesome. Love doing those! But I'm sure real life is a lot different. Gotta pretty much have absolute faith in your instruments.

Now someone mentioned F-16 certification? Since being in FS I'm self-certified in the F-22, Boeing 737NG, Beechcraft B1900D/C, Challenger, Lear 45. Sikorsky UH-60, SR-71. U2, King Air, Cessna Caravan Amphibian, Cessna 172, and the list goes on. I'm like a FS aircraft repo guy. LOL

My favs are the Raptor F-22, Lear 45, 737NG and B1900D. A littel personal Beechcraft action. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQvYoUoBwWg

In case anyone is curious about VATSIM. It's like ATC multiplayer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcnpO6roRM8

15 hours of Top Gun on NES should be able to be substituted for 15,000 hours in RL flight time.

Grateful for what? You realize pilots are paid for flight time and limited to 1000 hours a year? 19\hour = ~19,000\year.

Anyways I dont really understand the point of your response. I have no idea if they kept up with inflation or not. I was speculating.
