If your parents are jewish, no matter what you do, you're jewish. They used the example that, if your parents are jewish and you convert to buddhism, you're not buddhist, you're just a bad jew.

correct me if i'm wrong, but that 'jewishness' can only pass down from the female side right?

Wow this thread is kind of pointless. I'm glad you guys are having healthy debate, but this is about as meaningful as girls having a thread trying to say that asian guys all have small penises. Great, now go find something more intelligent to do.

Why are we not talking about boobs? This thread has been derailed. I think we can all agree that that the word "jewish" can be/is used to describe both decendants of the original Jews or people that practice Judaism, and that typically, these two definitions overlap. There isn't any correct answer since its not really clearly defined. I think we all know what the OP was getting at.

What we need now, are more antecdotal stories involving boobs. A larger sample for us to make an accurate judgement on, if you will.

Fair enough. The only girl I've known that was labelled as Jewish (both by descent and religion) had small, seemingly perky breasts. Never got a chance to do a more thorough inspection.

yes. if your mother is jewish and your father is not, you're jewish. if your father is jewish and your mother is christian, you're not jewish. sure, people use the term "half-jewish" but if you really want to get technical to what religious jews accept, it's all about the mother.

imthebadguy: i'm inclined to agree that many students in good colleges are from rich families. there's another half, though -- those who can't afford to go to good colleges such as umich (or any college for that matter). you can look at the traditional jews whose husbands sit and learn torah all day while the mother cares for the 72 children. that's not particularly the lifestyle i'm planning to pursue (i find it stupid, but to each his own), but those people are definitely not rich. however, to go back to the point of the OP, those women seem to confirm his breast assessment.

You'd be incorrect though. Look up Tay-Sachs. It's a genetically transferred disease that travels along bloodlines. You'd find that the bloodlines haven't mixed all that much, since a person of Jewish descent is 10x more likely to get Tay-Sachs than a person of non-Jewish descent. We're not talking 1.003x as likely or 1.5x as likely, we're talking 10x as likely.
