Well I KNOW they change SOME people's oil.

I've seen the trails of oil leading out of there and down the street...

(You know, from when they forget to TIGHTEN the drain plug... )

Another easy thing to do is ask for your old parts back, or if there is a core charge at least ask to see your old parts before agreeing to the service.

Sure there are ways they can still defraud you *like showing you parts from someone elses car*, but at least it will show them you are paying attention. In most cases that should be enough to get a dishonest person to move on to another mark.

If you are getting stuff done at a "Fast Food Shop", like Jiffy Lube, Oil Changers, etc most of the time you can stand there and watch them, or stand outside close enough to see what is going on.

Wow, this should be on 20/20 so everybody in America can see it.
This will surely cripple Jiffy Lube if more people see it.

I'd like to see more of this type of news just to keep businesses honest.

Seriously, this needs to be aired to the entire nation, not just whatever city this was shown in.

Time for some JL in FPMITAP. There will be no shortage of lube needed there.

Nice generalization there...
And whats wrong with that?
It's false, that's what's wrong with it.

Most mechanics are honest people. The Jiffy Lube guys are not mechanics in the proper sense of the term. It's not a career for them, it's a job.

They're usually cheaper than Jiffy Lube too (although usually not as convenient, as they will probably need you to drop off your car for the day).
Changing a serpentine belt on a modern engine requires nothing more than a breaker bar.

Timing belts are another matter, but serpentines are simple ribbed belts with automatic tensioners. I replaced the serpentine belt on my old Lincoln in 10 minutes.

Bald and a flamebaiting moron? No wonder his wife left him and the state of Georgia tried to screw him.

Thanks for the video. JL accidently drained my wife's tranny fluid instead of the oil during an oil change. Suprisingly they fessed up, and actually sent a guy to a dealership because they didn't stock the fluid the truck needed. After watching the video I should be happy they didn't just fill it up with whatever they had on hand.

To be fair, the next oil change she took the truck to a sears auto center, and they did the same thing. Sitting around all day while they drive to get the fluid to refill sucks.

From then on I just do it myself, at least I can be sure it gets done.

I have personally never had issues with Jiffy Lube, which is in no way to defend what those asshats did. Additionally, I would always stand right outside the garage bay to watch the entire thing, so *maybe* that had something to do with it. Before I moved, I probably went to the same Jiffy Lube for nearly ten years with no problems at all. Just got lucky, perhaps.

I've had decent luck with Tire Kingdom.. They seem to actually do the work I ask them to.. Also, they even do extra work if I pay them for labor. (Had to get them to change out a faulty electric water pump motor that I supplied to them.. They only charged me like $40.)

Wonder why so many places have trouble with a common vehicle like this.

Edit to get back on topic:

I've had quite a bit of mechanic work done in some local shops. (I just bought a used truck and I'm trying to make sure everything's working.) These local guys have gone out of their way to save me money. I'm feeling pretty good about REAL mechanics right now.

I think this is usually the case. Usually, if you have the knowledge of even slightly how to do the stuff, you'd know how they'd stiff you, if you look out, but then, you might as well do it yourself if you knew how to do it, wouldn't you?
Like everyone has a huge garage and the money to afford all of the tools necessary to do the work even if they knew how...

You need almost nothing to do an oil change.

It's a lot easier on a RWD car.

IIRC on some GM car's, you can't do it unless you remove the upper motor mount.

I know it's be a heck of a lot easier on my saturn if I removed the upper mount, but defientely doable with it in place.

Plus, he's full of sh!t lying as usual. The only person in P&N who might possibly defend a corporation committing fraud would be Zendari. Otherwise, if this thread actually was in P&N, the entire thread would be full of repeated calls to not only have Jiffy Lube shut down, but every mechanic shop across the country, with huge generalizations that all such shops are evil, and the people must be protected from them, etc. If then, say, I were to enter the thread and ask how one would then get their car serviced with every single garage in the country shut down, the responses would vary from "universal car care!" to "OMG he must be teh heretic apologist!"

And people wonder why ATPN is such a dead zone. I go there just to poke the loonies in their loonie bin. Hours of fun!
