Jimmy Johns subs

I tried out Jimmy Johns today for one of their 'gourmet' subs. Ok, not so gourmet at all. It's basically like subway w/out the flavor... pretty bland if you ask me. I ordered the Lulu sub which was $5.99. They asked if I wanted cheese so of course I said sure. Then they asked if I wanted a pickle... cool, that sounds good I said. My total comes to almost 9 bucks! For a sub and a pickle. Not even a combo. Looked at my receipt and they charged me $1.00 for the cheese and $1.25 for the pickle! They don't even mention that it's additional when you order... just try to sucker you in for the upsale.

Well at least the pickle was GINORMOUS so I don't feel completely ripped off.

But I won't be going back. Seriously I'd rather them post their sandwich prices as $8.50 and include whatever the fvck I want on it for that price. At least that way I don't feel deceived.

Never been to a Jimmy John's, but charging extra for cheese on a sub is completely bogus.

404 - Logic Not Found. JimmyJohns is probably the best sandwich place on the planet. I think it's the bread.

If you want it your way go to fucking Subway. That way you have the option to make it taste like shit by asking for whack combination of ingredients. With JimmyJohns, I can confidently know anything I order will taste good.

I probably wouldn't care as much if it were like other places that charge 10 cents or a quarter for cheese... but $1.00 for a couple of thin slices? C'mon. Tell me at least before so graciously throwing it on my sub w/ a smile.

Subway has flavor?

For me, the sub chains are all very similar, because meat is meat and lettuce is lettuce. It's the bread that makes the difference, and Jimmy John's bread is awesome. I've never liked Subway's bread; it's only tolerable when toasted because it's usually stale.

Local sub shop > Milio's > Jimmy John's > Quizno's > Subway

Yummy... Stale bread on a tiny ass sub for $6+.

Our local shop just destroys all the sub competition in town.

That's the problem though. It's not that good. The bread is somewhat toasty, but dry. Glad you like em. I'm sure they'll be out of biz sooner than later.

Have you actually seen their stock? They pop up new stores all over the US and have growth on par with McDonalds!

JJ makes them exactly how I like them. Quiznos, Subway, Goodcents, none of those do.

Their subs suck because of the way they make them. They put mayo on the sandwich before the cheese and meat and topings so by the time it's all made, the entire body of the sub is sliding all over the place in a self-contained pocket. JJ isn't the worst chain sub out there, that goes to subway in my opinion.

Your best bet at JJ is the actual sandwiches made on sliced bread, those are actually decently tasty and about right price wise.

I've never had a problem, I only rip off half of the wrapper and use the remainder to keep the meat in place. I wasn't some genius who thought of this by himself, thats how I observed others eating them. The only bite that slides around is the last one.

I'm sad, this is the only sandwich place outside a restaurant that makes sandwiches I can tolerate and everyone else hates it. =(

That's the way I eat an italian beef, but I don't like to do that with cold sandwiches. Furthermore it's such a simple design flaw that's so easily corrected.. not sure why they don't just put the mayo on top of the cheese/meat before putting on topings.

Oh I wouldn't say I hate it... I just won't be back b/c it wasn't good enough for the price I paid. For almost $10 I can double up at Subway or get a HUGE sub at firehouse w/ a combo.

Dunno. Their $5 Gargantuan LOOKS small, but it's tightly packed with meat and cheese. I can finish two Subway footlong subs if I'm really hungry and I usually CANNOT finish a Gargantuan..

a) order less mayo

b) where have you been that the mayo was applied on top of the meat instead of to the bread?

ya, no......i went there, got some sub, and couldnt even finish it. It was pretty horrible. Hard to mess up a sub, but they did. They put some weird friggin green grass crap on there, cant remember the name of it, but it was gross. Just stick to lettuce you jerks!

We have a local place here (Hogans Heros) and it is about 100x better than any chain sub place....

What am I doing wrong? Should I negotiate the price next time?

I'm pretty good at talking down car dealers. Maybe it works the same way, no?

Sounds more like you live in an area where you think it's acceptable to be ripped off via price gouging vendors. Not sure what help I can offer there, I live somewhere where people are sane.
