What am I doing wrong? Should I negotiate the price next time?

I'm pretty good at talking down car dealers. Maybe it works the same way, no?

You're ordering the wrong thing
I like JJ because they're the ONLY sandwich place that charges less when you only have meat and cheese on your sandwich.

OH!!!!! That must be another hidden rule somewhere in the official JJ ordering guide.

Damn, that didn't even occur to me.

Maybe I can just order bread alone next time for $2.00. Tasty!

If you want it your way go to fucking Subway. That way you have the option to make it taste like shit by asking for whack combination of ingredients. With JimmyJohns, I can confidently know anything I order will taste good.

It is the bread.

I drop by after work once a week or so and get their day old bread, it's $.50 for a loaf and it's incredible. Highly recommend.

I really like them. I usually just get their simple #1, (Ham & cheese) so there's no extra costs. The bread is great. And they are fast, even in the most crowded lunch hour I am in and out in a flash.

I like Potbelly more than Jimmy Johns, both of which I am not very familiar with coming from the Northeast.

also, Subway's meats taste bad, their veggies are decent, they used to have more bread selections too...

Quiznos - their quality has gone down the shitter over the past couple of years...

I have a friend that does that, then loads up the bread with some nice pulled pork...
Aaaand now I need to go get something to eat.

Your best bet at JJ is the actual sandwiches made on sliced bread, those are actually decently tasty and about right price wise.

You obviously don't know how to eat a JJ's sub.

JJ's is probably the most popular sub in EL. It brings a tear to my eye when people order subway. Subway is terrible.

The subway comment he made shows his tastes have probably been acquired in the ghetto.

I don't eat at either much, Subway is good for bang for buck over a burger place.

I haven't had a bad meal at Jimmy Johns yet and usually my sub is done before I have finished paying.

The meat seems a lot less processed tasting than Subways.

Man I've always wanted this! All I ever get is meat/cheese/mayo/spicy mustard/maybe oregano. Yet I still pay the same as the guys who get every topping and I've always wondered why.

JJ just opened near me so I'm definitely checking it out now.

I hate potbelly. You have to spend like $10 to get a decent filling meal.

I had one of the $4.25 subs and it was pretty good. (And it came with cheese... I assume cheese is only extra on certain sandwiches. Most of the sandwiches have cheese by default.)

I tried out Jimmy Johns today for one of their 'gourmet' subs. Ok, not so gourmet at all. It's basically like subway w/out the flavor... pretty bland if you ask me. I ordered the Lulu sub which was $5.99. They asked if I wanted cheese so of course I said sure. Then they asked if I wanted a pickle... cool, that sounds good I said. My total comes to almost 9 bucks! For a sub and a pickle. Not even a combo. Looked at my receipt and they charged me $1.00 for the cheese and $1.25 for the pickle! They don't even mention that it's additional when you order... just try to sucker you in for the upsale.

At that point I'd just walk out and tell them to eat the sub themselves.

JJs isn't terrible, but it's definitely a rip off. I'd still take it, or anything, over Subway.

Penn Station > Jersey Mikes > Firehouse > Quiznos > Stuffys > JJs >>>>> Subway

Really? Costs 6$ for the Biggie?-sized sub here in Alexandria, VA.

interesting, i ALWAYS put the mustard and may on the bread first when i make sammys/subs myself and even with sub rolls never have this issue, it actually annoys me that subn placed put it on the meat/condoments

I always put the condiments on the top piece of bread and it's never an issue. The problem with doing that on a sub is that they put it on both sides of the V, if they used it on one side it wouldn't be an issue. Similarly if they did what Subway does it also wouldn't be a problem.

I love jimmy johns' subs! Although they are a ripoff in price... I buy their day-old breads and make a bunch of sandwiches on my own with them... cheap and excellent!!

i love them, but they charge like $4 for bacon so my #9+drink is like 10.00 which is just ridiculous.

Huh? I've never heard of the place until this thread. I'm on the west coast btw. Anyway, if I wanted a sub, I would go to a local mom and pop sub shop. $6.50 for a regular, $8.50 for a large. They toast the bread and cook the meat on the grill when you order. Mom & Pop > franchised food.
