Jittery/uncooperative mouse

My mouse (logitech G5) gets all jittery/unresponsive once in a while, I can't figure out what causes this. Hopefully it doesn't stay this way this time. I've messed with mouse settings a bunch in windows and setpoint (logitech's mouse software) and nothing makes it better. Mouse almost has a mind of it's own, and is reluctant to go where I want it to sometimes

Here's an example of what the mouse is doing...just line drawing to show what the mouse is doing: picture - I was just trying to draw straight circular lines.

It seems like the mouse doesn't like the surface it's on or something, but it's the same mousepad I've been using for a few years, and it was working fine earlier today. Like I said up above hopefully it will work tomorrow when I wake up. If that's not the case, what can I do to try and fix it or find out what the problem is?

move the transmitter closer?
maybe theres interference? i dunno

transmitter? Nah it's wired. It's still acting the same way today also.

edit: wow I think it might have something to do with pressure. If I just press on the laser window thingy with my thumb the mouse jitters all over the place even though i'm not moving my thumb at all.

edit2: here's another pic to show what my mouse does if I just put a little pessure on the laser and not move my thumb at all (ie it should just stay still): picture 2

edit3!: i tried my mouse on another computer and it was the same.

trying to take advantage of the warranty but logitech wants the receipt from when I bought it from best buy over a year ago :/ - It's definitely not a software problem either, so I'm probably SOL if logitech won't honor the warranty. Any plan b if that's the case?

Had teh same issue with a G5--I was like, "why is the mouse losing tracking!!?!".

Download the firmware upgrade and it will go away.
