You're running a lot of boost in the desert - it's gonna run hot! Are you using just water + water wetter, or is there some coolant in there too? I can't imagine freezing is an issue there, so I'd probably go with the minimum amount of coolant to prevent corrosion (if you think water wetter alone won't handle the job).

It had whatever the previous owner had in it - way overdue for a change. I'm going to run Toyota coolant - debating between OE recommended 50/50 split, or just a gallon of coolant and the rest water (13.4qt capacity).

:awe:

Also, stock MR2 turbo cooling system is good for some heinous amount of power on the street, something like 500-600hp. Those 7ft long hard lines add a lot of cooling capacity.

So your turbo has balls now? :awe:

Indeed. :awe:

Old turbo is out and removed from the legendary turbo adapter forged in kitteh litter. The legendary turbo adapter forged in kitteh litter has been removed from the exhaust manifold, and it's ready for reassembly with the new parts.

My turbo gasket had split in the middle - I'm no longer using a twin entry turbo so there was nothing to support the middle. To avoid a risk of metal parts entering my exhaust turbine, I removed the center section.

New Tial 38mm wastegate!

Assembly complete, ready to drop in the car.

Turbo is all hooked up, radiator is back in, fans are back on - one of the radiator fan bolts snapped during removal, and one of the brackets on the other one bent out of shape (yay rust) so I was only able to get two out of three bolts into each fan. I tried removing the one that snapped - drilled into it until the ez-out tool bottomed out and then tried removing it - didn't budge, just twisted the bracket. Since I am not interested in drilling it out completely and risking punching a hole in my radiator, I've decided they will stay well enough with two bolts.

I need to get a vacuum line t fitting to finish plumbing the wastegate and boost control, then we're good to bleed coolant and cross fingers!

I was looking at your PCV setup all confused and such... then I remembered you dont have to worry about measured air anymore and I became extremely jealous.

I think we're good to go. Bled coolant last night, let it cool down to ambient temp, bled again this morning and got a few more air bubbles, but I didn't see any for a while. Fans kicking on and off as they should, temp pretty solid around 183f. Gonna go for a ride.

Really shitty audio, but you can really hear the turbo through the intake - being ball bearing it spools so fast that you can hear flutter from a quick rev from idle. Link
