Make sure all the bolts are tight on the oil pump.

Hehe Installed and checked twice, 12 bolts to 69 in-lb. There's that timing belt guide one that has to go in too...hoping the BGB will tell me about it.

So, main galley plugs are in (didn't see a torque spec, so I put them in as tightly as I was comfortable with), the rear main seal is installed, and the oil pump (with new front main seal) is installed. Pulleys (and water pump) are next!

The oil pan goes on next, then water pump and head. I don't have the water pump yet, so I might put the head on first.

Installed ARP head studs and test-fitted gasket:

Lubed studs, washers, and nuts - torqued in sequence to 20ft-lbs, again to 20 ft-lbs, to 40 ft-lbs, then to 60 ft-lbs (repeated twice more at 60 ft-lbs to ensure they were all even - 3rd repetition showed all between 57 and 60 to start, so we should be good):

Humna humna! I'm really excited to see this driving again. You've gotta be nearly freaking out after what?... A year?

The hose from hell ripped on removal, I'm somehow missing two flywheel bolts, and one of the ones I have doesn't want to thread in nicely. I just ordered a new HFH, three flywheel bolts, and an OEM thermostat.

If all goes well, tomorrow I'll get one or both manifolds installed.

I had to use a modified flywheel bolt to clean out loctite that was left in the threads that kept the bolts from screwing in nicely when I did a clutch on my Miata. A stainless wire brush in a drill might also work.

Looks great though! I wait with baited breath to see the beast alive again. :awe:

The water pump is installed, as well as the HFHOE and one set of hard lines.

I can't find my old timing belt tensioner - ordered another one. I am not going to risk not having it by the weekend...plus a new one wouldn't really be a bad idea anyway.

I realized I do not have pigtails for my fuel injectors. Fortunately they're a fairly generic Bosch (GM/etc) connector so I should be able to get some by the weekend.

So, I need pigtails and I'm waiting for Toyota to get me flywheel bolts, HFHOE, thermostat, and a timing belt tensioner.

Intake manifold and timing belt tensioner tomorrow. Maybe if I get a good enough early start, I can roll it out to the garage, hang it from the hoist, then finish the water lines and install the exhaust manifold and turbo.

Do yourself a favor and paint the 0* and 10* lines.

Also, you can paint the timing belt cover... or get a clear one!

Timing belt tensioner is in - motor is timed, upper t-belt cover is on, and the other coolant bypass hose / hose from hell is on. The exhaust manifold/turbo assembly is installed, but I noticed that one of the studs had stripped the head at some point - wouldn't go past ~30 ft-lbs. The bad news is I have to time-sert it. The good news is it's a hell of a lot easier to do outside of the car than inside!

The intake manifold needs to be cleaned and installed. I have to make another run to Ace Hardware for crush washers for the oil feed and clutch slave, as well as a few more bolts that have disappeared. I also need to get a set of punches and rebuild the distributor. Once that's done, I can button up the valve cover.

No crap! Outside the car... that's practically cheating.

Found crush washers for clutch slave in my OE gasket kit (yay Toyota). The oil feed uses the trans drain gasket from a Tacoma - on hold for me at Toyota. I bought four new exhaust studs just in case (I have 4-5 time-serts left, plus some big-serts). I also grabbed a few more bolts for water lines to the block.

I need to rebuild the distributor..that's what's holding me up at this point.

Beast mode: ON.
