A stoichiometric burn of E85 needs about 67% more fuel volume as gasoline, and could achieve around 17% more power with that extra fuel flow. It is not very energy dense.

Though knock is definitely the immediate limiting factor here, not fuel flow, I just wanted to put some numbers to the "E85 needs way more fuel capacity" story.

Which is part of why it's an evil, evil thing for all applications except where the higher octane rating is desireable (like here).

Overall, it's an awful, awful fuel for general use. (Just as racing fuel is an awful, awful fuel for general use).

I'm not knocking you using it, because you're using it for the right reasons.

Heh, I really need bigger injectors. After experiencing 21psi, 10-11psi is quite sad.

The MR2 is out at a shop now to get a proper 3-way cat welded in-- the 2-way Magnaflow spun cat that was on there is pathetic. Hopefully I'll pass emissions tomorrow- haven't had much luck with that so far.

Aw man good luck with emissions. I feel so lucky that Indiana is basically the wild west when it comes to motor laws. I plated a dirt bike and have removed the cats on all my performance cars.

I cant bring myself to clean the carbon on the bumper above my dual exhausts on my 300zx

Made it. It's incredible how bad the Magnaflow cat was - with a Cali-spec heavy metal cat, I passed easily.

Here's my series of tests. #1 was first, #2 was after giving the Magnaflow cat a good highway run to heat it up, #3 was on E85, and #4 was Cali-spec cat on E85.

I'm back to the stock ECU for now, still waiting for a replacement for the ROM tune. Unfortunately that means I'm limited to ~275whp.

Once I get another ECU and find some 800cc injectors, I can hit the high boost map at 330-340whp and make videos worth watching.

I'm going to get extremely tired of driving up to Phoenix and back...

some day, it would be a cool dream to drive my MK1.5 through the states. Hit up Seatle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Yuma, Pheonix, Vegas, Denver/Boulder, Yellowstone, and home, oh baby. My only concern is that someone once told me that the police can sieze my car if it is not street legal for that state, even if its a foriegn car and legal in my country. =( that and there is zero storage in an MR2...

But I'd make it a priority to stop in and have a beer with you guys or something. Would be kinda neat.

I don't think that is accurate. That would be a nice drive, though, and there's plenty of storage in an MR2! Just don't bring much stuff.

I wondered about that. But someone did say that California specifically is hard on out of state cars. Sounds kinda like bullshit, and IM not sure I trust the source, I just dont know how to find out for sure.

oh ya man, and Id take the scenic route too. No I5 for me. The 101 all the way down, and side roads through colorado/Wyoming/Montana FTW. So beautful there, lots of corners, and I'd be in no hurry (well maybe sometimes... it is a MK1.5 after all lol). Just pack a tent and camp out along the way.

I spose if I pack a bunch of stuff behind the seats, and forget about the girlfriend, then I could use the passenger seat too. I wouldnt trust the trunk until I know things wont catch on fire back there. Laundromats ftw.

And REALLY? Still waiting on that ECU. For shame. whats the hold up? I thought japanese parts could be shipped overnight...

Haha..yeah...

I'm going to call them tomorrow and see if I can get an update. I really would rather not spend the money, but I am kinda tempted to get an Apexi PowerFC. I could lose the AFM entirely and go straight to 1200cc injectors. I can get a used set of SARD 800cc sidefeed injectors that'll drop into my stock rail for $450 ($569 new), or I can get a new set of 1200cc injectors, top feed fuel rail, and installation kit for $675.

Right now, I'm thinking I will try to get the ROM tune set up for E85 and run the $450 800cc injectors. That'll max out at 378whp, which is more than I'll be able to get with my setup without cams.

Seems my wideband is borked - frozen at 7.4 AFR, and the status LED won't illuminate at all.

I may replace it with a Zeitronic or AEM. The old ECU is going back to ATS Racing tomorrow, so hopefully that'll be squared away within a couple of weeks, then I can drop in the 800cc injectors and hit the track.

Highway 1 >>>>> Highway 101.

I live right by both of these, Highway 1 is so close to the coast that a part of it near where I live fell into the ocean last year. If you do this in the next year you should stop in Monterey while I'm still stationed here.

As far as the out-of-state cars, never seen or heard of anyone having a problem, you only have to get a smog test if you live here for over a year with an out-of-state vehicle. There's lots of out-of-state plates in Monterey because of the Army post here. Look it up on the California state website?

Sorry for the threadjack, I love to go for long drives on the beach

Also, does this mean that the MR2 is still out of commission Jlee?

Can't wait to see where you're at once you get the ECU and injectors. I call shens on that pic though, the sky is grey not blue, from December to May. :'(
