Job apps no longer have white or black listed as a race.

our friends 17 year old son has been job hunting and all the applications he has filled out white or black are not listed in the race section. these apps came from big companies like Target, Kmart, TacoBell, and a few were from local places. here is the choices listed for your race.

NON HISPANIC-BLACK
HISPANIC
ASIAN

Your title is inaccurate though. Black and white ARE both options there. They've just clarified it. I usually see it as "White (non-hispanic)" not the other way around, but I'll take your word for it that it says it that way since it really makes no difference (except maybe to someone who would get indignant over insignificant things).

It makes a lot more sense to give those two non-hispanic options than to just give white and black. Suppose you're white and hispanic or black and hispanic and can only choose one box - do you choose black or hispanic? This way makes it clear - you chose hispanic.

I am of Spanish descent by the way, but I always check white non-hispanic anyway. Partly because after two generations I am not recognizably Spanish, and partly because who wants to be known as hispanic at this time in this country? It's bad enough that I have to put a Spanish name on my resume.

OK for starters, we're not talking about half white-half hispanic, we're talking about a subset of whites and blacks that belong to a different ethnicity. So half white and half black is a completely unrelated issue.

But to answer your question, half white and half black is considered by pretty much everyone to be black.

Because people who have never met me assume I'm Mexican (or at least Latino) based on my name. I don't think I need to tell you that Mexicans are not very well liked by many people in this country, whether they're legal or illegal.
