With the caveat that this is a VTC (Video Teleconference). It is with 2 of the VP's of the company and an Assistant VP.

I will be using my mobile phone for the call, so I am assuming the only part of me that will be visible if I want decent resolution would be from the collarbone and up (think Sykpe, Facetime, etc). Do I wear my regular office attire, which is business casual or go more formal like a shirt tie?

....Do I wear pants....???

Really? The best you can do is using a phone and not skyping on a laptop or tablet?

What kind of company? Any idea on the culture in the office?

I would say a nice shirt and tie is a safe bet. It's better to be a little over dressed and have them joke about you needing to relax if you're going to work there, vs being under dressed and giving a bad first impression.

Honestly, the cameras/mics phones have these days are more than enough for most VTC needs. As long as it's not more than 4yrs old, a cellphone is fine.

I don't have a laptop. And... How is a tablet camera better/different than a cell phone camera? They are basically the exact same.

Insurance company. The website says they allow Business Casual dress... But I think because this is an interview, a tie is warranted. Have never done interview via VTC before, but the office is not within driving distance for me.

The difference is with a mobile phone, b/c your screen is so small, you'll have to hold it closer to you, thus the camera on your phone is closer to you, so your interviewers will probably just see your face.

Whereas if you had a laptop or tablet, the screen on those is bigger allowing you to sit back some, and in doing so, the camera can get you in a better frame than just your face.

And as always, overdressing is better than being undressed.

At a minimum, go with a shirt and tie. And make sure the tie is not flashy or seasonal. Keep it clean/simple. Also check your teeth before you do the video, last thing you want is some food stuck between your teeth.

I think you would instantly get the job if you looked like this. Nothing a large background and some cosplay can't fix.

Eh, that's only if I care seeing them very well, which I honestly don't. But I agree with the point. I do have an old shitty webcam, but the camera on my phone is much better so I assumed that would be the better bet. I'll probably have to hold my phone in my hands because I can't think of a good way to secure it at eye level sitting at my desk at home.

Insurance company? There is only one right answer. A tie. Doesnt matter what their normal business dress in the office is. A tie.

Most of those have the same threads that are used on camera tripods.

1. Buy a mount for the phone
2. Get a cheap tripod
3. Combine phone mount and tripod
4. Record some test footage to get placement right
5. Look like a pro during your interview
6. Get Money

Edit: Also, pick up a decent BlueTooth headset while you're at BB. Will look clean and deliver better audio for both parties.

Don't forget you can use some software that sends subliminal messages every so often.

"Hire this guy TODAY"

"Six figures is barely adequate"

"Below the camera view he's gone full meat hang. You'll never see unless you hire him."

First and foremost, never wear pants to an interview. You want to be memorable and a guy with no pants will always stand out from the crowd.

A teleconference negates most of that though, so you have to get more creative. Go with a high-pitched falsetto voice and full face make-up. Something like a zombie or a character from the new Star Wars to demonstrate that you're hip to what's happening in the world today.

Seriously? Duct tape it to the wall if you have to, but don't do a job interview with your arm hanging off the side of the frame as if you're taking a selfie. Extremely unprofessional.

I have not been let down.

I'll have to go to BestBuy after work tomorrow to set up the tripod, but I do love all these creative responses.

I was thinking pretty much the same thing. You don't want to get the seasick with your arm movements.

Wear a jacket and sit on the bottom of it. Have you never seen the movie broadcast news?
