Just wondering, does anyone ever posts tech jobs on forums? I have a feeling that must be against some sort of rule.

Being not from the United States myself, anyone have tips on good places for finding IT staff?

Post something like this to Indeed and wait.

Entry-level helpdesk position

*BS spiel about the company*

*BS spiel about the wanting dedicated professionals for a demanding industry.*

List of qualifications: a degree or 2-5 years' experience in the industry, quick and polite service, blah blah, *list of certifications that is preferred but not required*, and maybe a security clearance depending on your industry.

Thanks for the advice, that is literally the first thing I did. Part of the problem is trying to find someone in a rural area of Colorado.

Ok so, full disclosure, I was being sarcastic because I'm butthurt about practically every hiring manager pulling that crap with a straight face. If you really demand a degree or multiple years of IT experience for an entry-level job where the workflow is answer phone -> tell them to turn it off then on again -> escalate, then I don't think you're going to get many bites.

The problem is, they do, because every job that actually requires those qualifications is filled so the qualifiers filter down. As a result, all promising applicants meet those requirements, so the requirements are reshaped to fit that landscape. Thus entry level jobs that require degrees and multiple years of experience.

At least 5+ years experience with a product released less than 2 years ago was much less of a thing last time I did job searching (1-2 yrs ago).

OK then, I'm just talking about posting to indeed...

But on that topic is it pretty damn reasonable to ask for education and experience relevant to the position. I'm not a 'hiring manager', just trying to find a decent sys admin.

experience relevant to the position

That would be the pertinent part. I found a *lot* of job positions when I was searching that were either a) asking way, way too low for a given position, or b) asking way, way too much experience for a given position. Sometimes a combination of the two.

You are fine to post your job on the forums, and there is a stickied thread for it on OT:

When it comes to sourcing, online postings are a common way to go about it but you will often find recruiters sourcing passive candidates on LinkedIn and such.

Honestly in my experience hiring in rural areas differs greatly from hiring in urban areas. You're more likely to find someone by networking with locals or by joining and posting on a local jobs group on Facebook, or on craigslist jobs if craigslist has a solid foothold in your area. Small towns don't see themselves reflected in the bigger, more expensive job boards as much.
