Senator Marco Rubio, professionally full of shit.

Rubio is a victim of his environment.
Had he entered politics in another era, he may not have ended up a person who spews bullshit PR lines.
He's is using the debate line that Obama had once used against McCain and Mayor Pete used as well that "Experienced professionals are what led us to "X" in the first place."

It's a predictable play made awkward by the past couple of years of a revolving door of incompetent grifters under a Republican led White House

I have a friend who works in the state dept and was over the moon on the Tony Blinken pick.

Blinken supported the Iraq war and played in a band called "coalition of the willing". Haha what a cool cheeky play on the name of the group of nations that invaded Iraq and slaughtered half a million people.

Did they decide what Rahm is going to do for the administration yet? Secretary of covering up police murders?

That's the bullshit of hearsay.

It's just a conservatarian running their mouth.

Blinken was Democratic staff director for the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee the year that Biden chaired the committee and whipped Democratic support for the war. He has never criticized the decision to go to Iraq or ever suggested he was against it.

Playing in a band called "coalition of the willing" is the cherry on top.

I was against the invasion of Afghanistan. I thought it was using dynamite when a scalpel was needed.
I yelled at the TV when they tried to pull the BS justification of invasion of Iraq.
I yelled at McCain and co when they played Obama into getting us into Syria.
I grimace every time some idiot starts talking about Iran.
Between my borderline atheism and my proclivity to not using our military as a penis extender guilt suppressor, my chances in politics are pretty limited to local work.

Everyone else? Not so much. The US loves a good war. Especially easy ones that play well on TV.
By nature, we are a murderous, cowardly society and any chance to form a Freedom loving missile launching blow up some civilian Ska band is just the way things work around here.

The issue you have is your candidate pool of public officials who went on record of being against the Iraq war is small. During the time period in question, you could not have a job on that committee unless you had a secret stash of those Gulf War 1 t-shirts with wire diagrams of Stealth Fighter and a Schwarzkopf quote on the back.

I'd like to point out that he was Staff Director. It's like you are pissed that the office manager of local bank didn't publicly apologize for the Mortgage crisis.
I'd also like to point out that it's a band name.

The obvious solution to the first point is that there are many qualified individuals who were not around in positions of power or influence in 2002. Sure, they might have supported it if they had an opportunity to, but in your scenario of limited options, it is far superior to selecting someone that did have the opportunity, and did ultimately support a horrific war crime.

Bank branch managers typically don't sit in the room with and advise the CEO, but I'll play along. If a branch manager signed off on a ton of bad mortgages, and then spent the last 13 years expressing no remorse or even acknowledging that the industry did anything wrong, should that branch manager then be promoted to a position of responsibility and leadership?

Yes, it's a band name that shows how much he cares about the Iraqi people. The cruelty is the point.

Remember when Wernher von Braun came to the US after World War Two and started a band called "Rockets Over London"?

I understand your position but I think your purity test is unreasonable.

Not old enough to remember that but I do seem to recall our space program being filled with a lot of people with German sounding names

Which isn't the same as baselessly contending he advised Biden to support the war.

I am not applying a purity test, I am criticizing a loathsome individual. How about supporting torture, drone killings, and fabricating evidence of WMDs for the Bush Administration? Is our pool of candidates really that shallow? Is there any line we shouldn't cross?

He was in an advisory position to Biden, who ultimately supported the war. Given the disastrous consequences of that war, if he had advised differently, he should tell us. Funny how when the party changes to D you're willing to uncritically support every nomination the president makes.

Come to think of it, "coalition of the willing" is a terrible band name. Wherever they played, they were destined to "bomb".

Still not the same. Blinken doesn't have to justify anything because there's no evidence that it's true, merely scurrilous accusation from conservative sources trying to rile you up. It worked, too.

If someone in worked in an advisory capacity for Trump on the issue of putting kids in cages, would you want them to confirm that they were against the policy before you hired them to be in charge of immigration?

If they remained silent on the issue, would it be reasonable to assume that they supported it?

Obviously, you'll assume whatever you want. Doesn't make it true or relevant. Tara says Hi.

The only name I initially recognized was Yellin (a home run IMO) but whan I got more info on the rest I had huge feelings of both relief and satisfaction that this country is actually going be run by competent people again.

Four the last four years my basic approach to the daily news was (first) what stupid and/or outrageous things did Trump unilaterally do today, (second) what stupid and or outrageous things did the Sec of Ed, Dept of Energy, SOS, etc (basically any cabinet level appointment Trump ever made) do today, followed by (third) what new indictments or firings where done in the Trump Admin today, and (fourth) what's the weather going to be tomorrow?

For the next four years my attention is going to be a lot more focused on the weather-which is great news.

Your argument is that a staff director did not publicly denounce the foreign policy of the US government therefore is in appropriate for future government positions.
You use his band name as evidence of his complacency to US actions.

I saw a short video of Marco Rubio the other day and concluded that he's one creepy hunk of excrement behind that boyish face.
