Joe Lieberman wants to bomb Iran

I can see why he might think this, however I don't see it doing more than aggravating an already difficult situation.

Well, Lieberman is pretty close to a neo-con on foreign policy... so I can't say I'm surprised. Why the connetticut voters re-elected him still baffles me, because of how far to the right he is of most voters there. I guess it shows you the power of incumbency. (and what happens when the opposition party abandons its own candidate to support you)

He lacks knowledge on the consequences of bombing Iran. He makes it sound like the U.S can just bomb Iran and sit back the next day and relax.

Not surprised. No politician has shown they now squat when it comes to foreign nations.

Apparently you don't care at all what Iran does to aggravate an already difficult situation in Iraq and Afghanistan. The nuclear weapon building terrorist czar sitting between those two nations needs to be taken out.

It will be messy, but a conventional war now is less dire than their sworn vow of nuclear war later.

The whole point of nuclear weapons is to NOT use nuclear weapons. What makes you so sure Iran will use them? They can spew all the rhetoric they want, but M.A.D. pretty much prevents anyone from using nukes. I pray that every nation on the planet gets nukes so that you asshat neo-cons have zero power to push other sovereign nations around and bring us into unnecessary and costly wars.

MAD only works when both sides actually care about surviving. It doesn't work so well when one side thinks they'll be rewarded in paradise with 72 virgins for starting a nuclear war.

Shouldn't you be praying that all nuclear weapons go away? And I think that the past 60 years of world history prove that nukes don't prevent conventional warfare. Projection of conventional US military power is usually enough to get our point across. Does anyone actually think that we'd launch a full scale nuclear attack on another country?

Actually that is a good point.

However - looking at Lieberman's history and the man's ideas are all gungho for Israel at any cost - ie: the expense of the USA.

Of course there will be extremists on all sides - they tend to balance eachother out and the moderates in the middle generally steer the course...but there isn't a single senator as "pro-arab country" (actually I'm GLAD for that to a degree, because then we are supporting dictatorships more than anything else...if anything maybe I should say "pro Arab self determination") so those extremists (ie: lieberman) can weave that middle spectrum any way they desire.

The weird thing is that Lieberman's justification is that " by some estimates, the Iranians may have played a role in 200 of the 3500+ US troop deaths." But Joe just cites the stat
without bothering to say who the source is, and I would have to assume that the cited statistic is the most wildly overoptimistic guess, and has equal credibility with all the WMD
we were going to find in Iraq. But some people just don't require credible evidence and when in doubt attack anyway. Precisely what Joe is accusing Iran of is in every fiber of Lieberman's being. No wonder Connecticut democrats gave Joe the ole heave ho.

Sadly, Lieberman will be around until 2012 when his political career will likely end in retirement. Maybe he can wangle a bunk in the neocon retirement home if it is not standing room only.
