Joe Scarborough suspended from MSNBC for campaign donations

I don't know what to think of this. First they go after Keith, now they're going after Joe. Anyway, it appears that Joe has apologized:

MSNBC said Friday that it is suspending “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough for two days after he acknowledged giving eight previously unknown $500 contributions to friends and family members running for state and local offices during his tenure at the network, a violation of parent NBC’s ban on political contributions by employees without specific permission from the network president.

“I recognize that I have a responsibility to honor the guidelines and conditions of my employment, and I regret that I failed to do so in this matter,” Scarborough said in a statement. “I apologize to MSNBC and to anyone who has been negatively affected by my actions,” he said, adding that after he was made aware of some of the contributions, he called MSNBC president Phil Griffin “and agreed with Phil's immediate demand of a two-day suspension without pay.”

This should protect MSNBC from any lawsuit by Blowberman claiming political discrimination.

Reliable sources indicate his suspension for admitting to this terrible crime will cover Thursday, November 25 and Friday, November 26*. Observers schooled in nuances and formalities of these types of highly controversial political upheavals have opined that when Mr Scarborough arrives back to work on Monday the 29th, he will likely have Turkey Sandwiches for lunch.

After he was made aware of some of the contributions? Is he sleep contributing? Is he on Kennedy's sleep medication? Sounds like a HUGE cop-out.

I still can't get past that MSNBC, as a condition of employment, can dictate that you don't give political campaign contributions. I guess if it's in their contract it's legit but it's still such a draconian rule. It's such a crackpot channel anyway I guess it doesn't matter, surprised Fox doesn't do this too.

..I would be far more upset at a news organization that *didn't* require their people to disclose political contributions.


Given that precious few organizations are actually neutral, it may well be a silly rule. But we should at least make a token effort at respectability.

I predict Morning Joe ratings will go up when he is gone-ironically he is definately the weakest link on that show.

Meanwhile Fox News contributes directly to the GOP as an organization. I hate cable news as a whole, but at least MSNBC does have some transparency.
