???? No, I used Google to find about a dozen articles of the incident and educated myself on what happened.

That's funny because I did the same thing and I saw nothing that proved that she was jaywalking.

How did you conclude that she was jaywalking?

It is in the first sentence of the article in the first link in the OP. She crossed on a red.

"Everything is bigger in Texas..." :whiste:

including the salaries...austin cops are paid a shit ton (or maybe it was ft. worth)

Anyway, I wonder what was so pressing that they had to force her into a custody arrest. Other news sites say "jaywalking"

If she caused an accident or negligently almost caused one, I could see the cops and some pedestrians getting pissed.

I bet you....*puts on ATOT troll mask*...if she was on a bicycle, we'd all be paying for each others beers and celebrating!

lol who the fuck enforces jaywalking?

What could have been a simple ticket was escalated by her lack of self control. Having a hard time feeling any sympathy for her.

WTF? It takes 4 fatass cops for to arrest a jogger who wasn't doing anything or illegal in any way? She's going to get a massive, fully justified payout from the city, at the taxpayers expense. And all 4 of these cops should lose their jobs for this crap.

Also, double wtf to so many people just standing around watching. I'd like to think I'd be on my own phone immediately calling 911, 4 people assaulting a girl on the street.

Google - 'Jogger Arrested' and let us know how many of the articles have in their title 'Jaywalking' then read them.

Because breaking the law and getting caught over it, even if it was something stupid, and causing you to get a ticket and not having a id will always be a good thing.

Hard to write you a ticket with no ID so it's up to them to identify her and they need to be able to do it somehow.

She broke the law. When you break the law, you can be arrested. Here, I cited the law below. If you need any help reading it, I'll help you. :awe:

(AUSTIN TX CITY ORDINANCE)
Bookmark§ 12-1-4 APPLICABILITY OF STATE LAW.
Except as otherwise provided in this title, state law relating to the regulation of pedestrian and motor traffic apply in the City.
Source: 1992 Code Section 16-1-4; Ord. 031204-13; Ord. 031211-11.

(STATE OF TEXAS STATUTE)
"Sec. 552.001. TRAFFIC CONTROL SIGNALS. (a) A traffic control signal displaying green, red, and yellow lights or lighted arrows applies to a pedestrian as provided by this section unless the pedestrian is otherwise directed by a special pedestrian control signal.

(b) A pedestrian facing a green signal may proceed across a roadway within a marked or unmarked crosswalk unless the sole green signal is a turn arrow.

(c) A pedestrian facing a steady red signal alone or a steady yellow signal may not enter a roadway.

Acts 1995, 74th Leg., ch. 165, Sec. 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1995.."

OK enough with the belittling of you...from a defense standpoint I would ask...where exactly did the alleged "jaywalking" occur, and what traffic control devices are present? Depending on the circumstances...the state law is different based upon the type of area and type of traffic control used.

Live in a college town, jaywalking is a huge problem. Would love to see the cops around here hog tie a couple kids for this.

Honestly, I think it's valid to see such a hub-bub created over arresting someone for a paltry offense. That's OK to bring up and OK to vent about.

But what I can't fucking stand, are people outright lying or being outright ignorant about laws.

Look at those fat fucks, holy crap that is some sloppy lack of professionalism. Pretty much if you are that morbidly obese as a cop who works the beat you don't give a damn and shouldn't have your job. Imagine if we had firefighters who were a hundred lbs overweight fighting fires, they'd end up stuck inside the house and adding to the fire like a candle.

Seems simple but it is actually a lot more complicated. Yes, they should take their job seriously and keep themselves in shape. But for the department to require it they have to pay for time for them to work out and also are on the hook for injuries incurred during those workouts. Some do require it, but many others offer a bonus for passing fitness tests. It's not as cut and dry as it should be.

edit
ID varies by state. In mine you do not have to produce upon request. Only have to ID if you have committed a crime/infraction, otherwise you can tell us to pound sand. And I agree with that. Anyone walking down the street should not be demanded to show ID.

Physically fit male officers went away when all physical standards were lowered to allow female officers to join. The Dallas PD fitness test requires officers to do a staggering FOUR push-ups in a minute.

The chick is a nut. When the cops stop you for crossing on a red light, you stand politely and accept your citation, and then you go on your way. If you want to fight it then you do it later according to the appeal process.

If you pretend you didn't hear them and keep running, then flop on the ground crying, you deserve some cuff time and further charges. Cops absolutely can detain you to ascertain your identity for the citation.

I don't know why people think they can ignore cops just because they want to.

Again varies by state. Here all have to adhere to the same standard, granted a fairly low standard but a standard none the less. Google NC POPAT. Solid test but to much time given for a solidly fit officer, if you can do the push ups and sit ups with no issues you can walk the rest of the course.

highly doubt that they need to make the physical standards 4 pushups per minute to be able to allow women
