First part was pretty good. Paul Giamatti is a damn good actor. Part II is coming up here on the west coast. Is anyone else watching this?

Fuck I was looking forward to this, I hope they replay Part I soon. Can I jump into Part II, or do they fictionalize a lot of it so I'd have to see Part I first? Like if this were a history channel documentary of John Adams I could jump in, but if it were 300 I couldn't rely jump in the second half and rely on my knowledge of Spartan history.

But Giamatti... he portrays Adams quite well, and the actress of his wife doubly so. Ben's character is also played quite well on screen, very much feels like the Ben I've come to know through history. A wise ass, a trait that runs deep in my family.

This is shaping up to be a great mini series so far... and couldn't have come at a better time, a time where everyone seems to have forgotten the foundations our great nation was founded upon.

 to this series.

lol I guess this will be locked for reposting. Would have been nice if a better title was used for that other thread.

Grr.

Don't worry. HBO will replay the parts 5-6 times in the next few days. They do the same with all of their original programming. Just check the TV schedule for this coming week.

I don't have cable, but from snippets I have seen it looks good. Hopefully they don't wait too long before releasing it on DVD.

This series is supposedly based on McCullough's book, which didn't really show Franklin in a great light.

Franklin had a light of his own that a lot of people tend to forget about. He was for the Republic, but was a Federalist iirc and wanted a strong federal government.... a little thing I disagree with but greatly admire his work to get to that point, and I admire where the nation was after it was established, at least following the ratification of the Constitution. I admit, I don't know as much about Franklin as I should, especially considering it's my lineage... however, that's something I'm slowly taking up as I've aged and taking upon myself to learn more about my lineage.

Boooooring!

I watch the History Channel almost everyday, so it's not that I don't like history.

I watched 2 shows, back to back, and I thought it was just boring.

I can't stand Paul Giamatti. He looks like a pig cartoon character or something. He should be in comedies... not historical representations.

BTW, why did his family infect themselves with SARS?

Thought it was good. Well acted, and nice to see something from that time period with an actual budget, instead of PBS or History channel. (not Patriot)

I get this on OnDemand (like TVR for comcast). I guess I will check it out. Last thing I saw with Giamatti was Sideways which was fantastic. My girlfriend read the book and then wanted to see the movie. I was reluctant to watch it but I'm glad I did.

if anyone orders Merlot, I'm leaving. I am NOT drinking any fvcking Merlot!

it was smallpox
and it was an early style of inoculation. get a 'controlled' infection, where the family can also afford the best treatment, and hope to overcome it. risky, but if it works, you essentially become immune so you don't need to worry about it at a time when you'd be more at risk.

i usually like paul giamatti, but he looked like he had some tobacco or some other substance under his lower lip the whole series. it was ridiculous looking.

It was kind of boring, but offered some insight into the solicitation of support from britain's "enemies".

It was a little slow, but I think it might be setting the stage for some events in later episodes.

Did anyone else get the strong feeling that the French Revolution was a good thing watching that last episode? Those fops really did deserve beheading.

You really have to give credit to Paul Giamantti for doing this series, his role requires heavy acting in period customs. He could probably make as much selling out his name for some Hollywood farce and do no work.

I liked the second part of the series better. Maybe because I didn't have to watch 3 hours of it (like the premier). I'll continue watching. Maybe I'll end up actually learning something...probably not though
