Doing this pre-super Tuesday definitely means something. He's likely got a cabinet position worked out with Obama (or possibly VP) He's young enough to run again in 8 years.
That's what I'm thinking, too.
As far as I can tell, no one saw this coming. I watch almost every political news show and he was expected to remain in the race.
Something's up. IDK what, but something is.
Well, no matter, this sets the stage for a clear one-on-one referendum in the Dem party. The "new Dem" party vs the "old".
The old school vs the Clintons.
The "women side" vs the "racial minority" side. We've seen some of the N.O.W. people come out bitterly against Ted Kennedy, they feel it's their time, not the "Black's" time. OTOH, I've seen some powerful women office holders (gov, Congresspersons) come out for Obama.
With Edwards dropping out so early, this gives the party race clarity (just HRC vs Obama) and plenty of time for their "referendum". I think that's a good thing.
OTOH, if they resolve the primary quickly, I'm afraid that's not purely a good thing. A month is an eternity in political races, and with a candidate chosen so early it opens the door to various problems: a sudden change in situtaion whether terrorism/foreign policy/domestic economy. More times for gaffes. The opposition has more time to focus on the candidate. The Repub nomination could continue on closely contested sucking up all the news coverage etc. (Of course, the Repub candidates could badly wound each other if they continue to fight hard/dirty).
A lot of political commentators on both sides thinks McCain is gona be the Repub nominee. Some feel that gives a clear choice on election day; the "new change" candidate of a young Obmama vs the older long-time Washington insider McCain.
If it's HRC vs McCain I'm gonna have to laugh if I keep hearing "change". At best that's just a code word for "gender". They've both been "celebrities" in DC so long it's a joke.
It's a wierd election, and just keeps geting weirder all the time.
