what's all this fascination with Edwards as VP? he couldn't even carry his own state in '04, he got wtfpwned in the VP debates, he doesn't balance out an Obama or Hillary ticket in any way, and if the primaries are any indication, he doesn't have a huge following among people who wouldn't be voting democratic anyways.

The most interesting thing about this is that the debate on Thursday will just be Hillary and Obama. Man that will be exciting.

I already posted in another thread that I think he'd be great as Attorney General. He's an experienced, intelligent and ethical litigator, unlike Gonzo the Clown, who is opposite of all of the above.

He was sympathetic, seriously...

Fixed it for ya.

You can only wish you were as pathetic as Edwards. He's a man of principle and honor who has used his abilities to help those who need it most and can least afford it.

Strategically I too see no benefit to tagging him as VP or anything else, really. Maybe AG for the sake of getting him to ask his voting base to go with Candidate X.

That VP debate was painful. Kind of awe inspiring when you consider that the guy was a trial lawyer - not exactly someone soft in the brain or bad at putting sentences together. Can't put one over on Cheney, I guess.

This is fantastic news for Obama. Whether Edwards officially endorses him or not isn't the big issue. The vast majority of his votes were "Anti Hillary" votes and they'll go for Obama.

Nice assertion, despite flying in the face of real data. http://ap.google.com/article/A...8fF_3B76ko8eAD8UGBH0O0

Four in 10 Edwards supporters said their second choice in the race is Clinton, while a quarter prefer Obama, according to an Associated Press-Yahoo poll conducted late this month. Both Clinton and Obama would welcome Edwards' backing and the support of the 56 delegates he had collected, most of whom will be free to support either Obama or Clinton, though some will probably look for guidance from Edwards.

So how is 4 out of 10 going to Clinton while 1/4 going to Obama fantastic news exactly?

I would not at all say that Cheney 'spanked' Edwards in their debates - Cheney's statements sounded strong, like "I've never met you before" - but of course, like much of what comes out of Cheney's mouth, it was a lie.

Edwards is a bright man with good intentions, I don't think we are done hearing from him.

That sellout should have dropped out a long time ago. He's soon forgotten what the Clintons have done for him in the past.

Kudos to him for making poverty and the "Two-America's" the ideal of his campaign. Any other race he would have had a stronger showing but unfortunately America is too caught up with the first "legit" female and African-American candidates.

Chris Rock:
On President Bush: "He has (expletive) up so bad that it's hard for a white man to run for president. ... You really can't be that dumb by accident. Nobody has ever given less of a (expletive) than Bush."

On Hillary Clinton: "I think America is ready for a woman president. But does it have to be that one?"

On Rudy Giuliani: "He's like a pit bull -- great if you've got a burglar, but if you don't, he might eat your children."

That's what I'm thinking, too.

As far as I can tell, no one saw this coming. I watch almost every political news show and he was expected to remain in the race.

Something's up. IDK what, but something is.

Well, no matter, this sets the stage for a clear one-on-one referendum in the Dem party. The "new Dem" party vs the "old".

The old school vs the Clintons.

The "women side" vs the "racial minority" side. We've seen some of the N.O.W. people come out bitterly against Ted Kennedy, they feel it's their time, not the "Black's" time. OTOH, I've seen some powerful women office holders (gov, Congresspersons) come out for Obama.

With Edwards dropping out so early, this gives the party race clarity (just HRC vs Obama) and plenty of time for their "referendum". I think that's a good thing.

OTOH, if they resolve the primary quickly, I'm afraid that's not purely a good thing. A month is an eternity in political races, and with a candidate chosen so early it opens the door to various problems: a sudden change in situtaion whether terrorism/foreign policy/domestic economy. More times for gaffes. The opposition has more time to focus on the candidate. The Repub nomination could continue on closely contested sucking up all the news coverage etc. (Of course, the Repub candidates could badly wound each other if they continue to fight hard/dirty).

A lot of political commentators on both sides thinks McCain is gona be the Repub nominee. Some feel that gives a clear choice on election day; the "new change" candidate of a young Obmama vs the older long-time Washington insider McCain.

If it's HRC vs McCain I'm gonna have to laugh if I keep hearing "change". At best that's just a code word for "gender". They've both been "celebrities" in DC so long it's a joke.

It's a wierd election, and just keeps geting weirder all the time.

Agreed. Edward's one strength as a candidate seems to be his charisma...something which Obama already has in spades, minus the swarminess. Edwards just doesn't bring anything to the table for Obama. At least his good old southern boy routine was sort of a balance for the wooden frankenstein he ran with last time.

His state is NC. speaking as one born and raised there, there is no way in hell a democrat is going to win that state in a national election. We had Jesse Helms for some 50+ years. Hell, Strom Thurmond ran for president in freaking 1948, then served as senator from ~then until his merciful retirement and death in '03 for SC. Edwards won one term b/c he was the lesser of two evils: Lauch Faircloth.

The majority of the South is stuck in the past, and many there are unwilling to evolve from that. As such, archaic and non-progressive republicans will win the day.

His loss in NC was in no way shocking.

No.

And I like Obama, but I really hope he doesn't choose Edwards as his running mate.

Well see next tuesday is Obama is truly electable. I kinda doubt it.
Edwards, if he's smart, wont endorse anyone. Why nix you vp chances?
He doesnt know if it will be Hillary or Obama anymore than anyone here does.
