I'll spell it out for you dimwits, since even my example obviously wasn't enough to penetrate those thick skulls: Saying something doesn't make it true! That's right, there's a lot of BS in this world, and it's up to you to see through it! If any of you were older than about 15 I wouldn't even have to type this  Regardless of what that thread's OP said, quoting the bible in a tech board's OT forum is at best an attempt to troll and at worst an attempt to proselytize.

My cause is to fight ignorance. I think I'm helping it pretty well.
By spouting incoherent dogma and throwing the rules of spelling and grammar out the window?

You've spelled it out but I'm not sure if you have actually said anything. And so the guy quoted the Bible on a tech board's OT forum, what is the problem? You are right Gurck, I must be 15 because I just cannot comprehend how this is a problem. Someone wants to start a legitimate topic and have a legitimate conversation without people like you trolling (now if you would like to join in the conversation, debate it in a civil manner like those who are over 15 do, then that's great!), why can't they? I would love to see more actual discussions and intelligent threads and debates in OT rather than the mindless flood of parody and nef threads, regardless of the topic.

Spending Eternity with you Funda Mental Cases would be the same as going to hell.

Sorry, I don't believe your flavor of Mythology anymore than I do the Romans, Norse or Greek.

One has the potential of ending up burning in hell forever, while the other has the potential of living eternally happy. There's quite the difference.
According to you.

That's called Pascal's Wager. Not much of a reason to believe in God IMHO. That would be like believing in Santa Claus just because if you do, you get presents, if you don't, you get nothing. I'm sure God would love to have people "believe" merely as a contingency plan.

Very true. I'm a Christian and I would be a Christian even if there was no heaven or hell. Ponder that for a while and see if that doesn't blow your mind.

Unfortunately, most "Christians" seem to use the church as a social gettogether or are there because they're hedging their bets just in case there actually is a God.

I'm not going to explain why I'm a Christian. It's a message that only has meaning to those who are ready to hear it and, trust me, practically nobody on this forum is.

But I was once a cynic. I had gone to church, but didn't become a Christian until I was 20. I spent an entire year in near solitude thinking more deeply about life than most of you will in a lifetime. I read about every major religeon and mythology, but I didn't seek guidance from any man. I followed the same path Dante took out of the Inferno.....logic. Cold, hard, horrifying, merciless logic. When you ask the question "Why?" infinitely to every great question of humanity and answer it honestly, you will come to certain inevitable conclusions that leave you with still further questions. This requires a state of true humility and honesty that most people only pass through briefly in their lifetime. In any case, I'm not going to go more in depth....I'm going to get enough rolleyes as it is. But, rest assured, when you're seeking the Truth with an open heart it will be there waiting.

I dont' see Jews, Arabs, Buddhists, Blacks, Hispanics (actually the PC term now is Latinos - not bashing, just FYI), Chinese, Japanese, or anybody else pushing their agendas, religious or otherwise, in an off-topic forum. Therein lies the difference...

1) its a fscking off topic forum. that means anything that isn't covered in one of the other forums is fair game here. i don't see a 'religion' forum here, do you? you don't have to read it. maybe we should shutter every library that has a religious text in it, and close every school with a religious studies department.

2) hispanic and latino are NOT the same thing. latino is anyone whose ancestry includes romance language speakers. that is, spanish, portugese, french, italian, and romanian. hispanic is people, living in the US, whose ancestry includes spanish speakers. hispanic was invented by the census bureau to account for the demographic differences between hispanics and other latinos. there is now a further subgroup, non-white hispanic.

Just the ones that shove it in your face as you walk in the door.

That's all well & good, but I'm talking about popular feeling on the subject. "Hispanic" is now out, "Latino" in.

Nope, instead the Atheists remove any mention of God from schools so our children can burn in hell.

Way to completely miss the point, I can't believe I have to further spell this out... did you by chance ever take an IQ test and have the administrator sigh frustratedly, say "Jesus Christ, I give up!" and walk out of the room? That would explain more than one of the things I'm having trouble with here...

I assumed a young age because you seem unaware that people are capable of lying. As Stark did when stating that his bible-quoting post wasn't intended to be a trolling or conversion post.

Kudos to you for coming to your own conclusions. However, the tone of your post smacks of the elitist condescension many atheists see in Christians (and indeed vice-versa!). The whole "thinking more deeply...than most of you will in a lifetime" may or may not be true, but it is unnecessary to frame it like that. It might cause someone to totally discount your experience, when in fact they may benefit from reading it.

I don't doubt your motives here, but I think if we all realize that God means something different to every single one of us we might speak about this subject with a little more empathy.

Personally, I find it difficult to identify with either "side" in this argument. My spirituality is an intensely personal thing for me, and thus is unique to me--which is how it should be for all of us, IMHO.

Perhaps he's following old testament scripture:

Numbers 31:7-18 - 7 They fought against Midian, as the LORD commanded Moses, and killed every man.

Fixed, and the minute the URL changes to http://www.jesustech.com, I'm out of here. Till then...

And yet you start a religious thread.

As I've stated, were you to actually read debates before responding to them (added bonus to doing this is not looking like an idiot), that thread was in large part an experiment.
