(the least spoilery one above)

I'm hoping that the movie is as good as this reviewer says it is for thinly plotted but entertaining action

http://www.filmfreakcentral.net/ffc/2014/09/fantastic-fest-14-john-wick.html

3.5 out of 4.

It's directed by two experienced stunt coordinators so hopefully the action is good enough to carry a 96 minute action movie.

Keanu Reeves isn't known as the best actor around but I do like well done or even decent revenge flick action films.

Keanu Reeves is great, in very limited roles. He is also an avid kung fu buff, so it might not be awful. Btw, right now it is at 100% fresh on RT; but it only has 9 reviews (average of 7.9).

Yeah I think this could be decent. I don't even really like Keanu (he was overrated as fuck in Matrix and all the other shitty action schlock like the demon Matrix movie he did), but he doesn't really bother me either, and as long as they focus on action that you can see and it's not a CGI shitfest like the Matrix sequels and also hopefully doesn't pull a Bond/Bourne/etc where you can't see the action because they've got the camera bouncing and blurred all over the place.

It does look like it could end up modern action schlock which I hate, but we'll see. The story seems ridiculously bad (did they punch his fucking puppy? seriously?), and some of the scenes look like a lot of other movies (the one with him fighting the woman assassin). But maybe it's more Shoot 'Em Up (cheesy cliched kitsch but self aware and having fun with it) than any number of movies that have this "badass has to unretire after he gets hunted down" (that the 80s did a billion times better).

They should have turned Point Break into a franchise. I think he was perfectly suited for the Johnny Utah role, and the guy he played in Speed. Aside those roles and the Bill and Ted movies, he just seems like a bad actor.

You're right he's not a great actor and he seems to appreciate the fact.

Consider that while he profited greatly from the Matrix movies many other people helped make the movies hits (even if the sequels weren't as good as the first movie) not just his acting skill. So he also turned over a significant amount of that profit to special effects artists and stuntmen.

http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/story?id=102572

The actor has even signed away a sizeable back-end deal for two Matrix sequels, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday in a profile of Reeves' erratic Hollywood career.

According to the paper, Reeves handed over his valuable profit-sharing points to the franchise's special-effects and costume-design team. Whoa, dude!

"He felt that they were the ones who made the movie and that they should participate," an unnamed movie executive tells the Journal.

As you read other articles he seems like a genuinely decent guy who also happens to make movies so there's another I am hoping the movie is good.

*e2a*

As for your franchise comment. Minor spoiler
In the movie there is a hotel that caters to assassins and it is apparently neutral ground where assassins are not supposed try to kill each other.

Little details like that add some atmosphere and could be grist for some possible sequel story lines.

Keanu is awesome. He just needs to pick better roles. This movie has promise. He's an awesome guy because he gives back to people unlike most stars. He donated his salary from Matrix 3 to the employees on the set, 50 mill I believe.

I do think he's a good guy (he's also had some pretty crazy stuff to deal with in his personal life I seem to recall) but I don't tend to enjoy movies he's in very often, and especially the characters he plays. Also to be honest I'm not sure him signing his profits to the special effects on the sequels was such a good thing, they became way too focused on the CGI stuff to the detriment of the movies. It's definitely good of him to recognize them (special effects companies other than maybe Lucas, Pixar, and Weta are basically treated like crap by Hollywood these days).

Oh and aren't they working on making a 3rd Bill & Ted movie? Keanu is probably doing that more to help the other guy and fan service than anything.

Horse poop is better than Transformers 4

I like Keanu but I have to admit I didnt enjoy his last movies, Man of Tai Chi and 47 Ronin... They were way too stereotypical for my taste and I got bored halfway through

This seems to be decent though, Ill definitely check it out

Hal Needham made the jump from stunts to directing. He directed some classics...Smokey and the Bandit and Cannonball Run.

Unfortunately, he also directed Megaforce.

i hated Man Of Kung Fu;

i also didn't like the one before that, Henry's Crime, if thats relevant. He's just not a good actor, but he does well when used as mannequin.

Saw this tonight and it is pretty good for an action movie. If you have to have some deep meaning and real story in your movies, this ain't for you. But, if you like well scripted action movies, this is a great one.

I saw it Thursday night and really enjoyed it. I didn't expect it to be the next coming of John Woo (though there certainly are a few homages) but it impressed me. The two former stunt coordinators/directors/whatever made some beautifully choreographed and shot action scenes. A few typical "why the fuck..." moments but overall I had a good time.

Nice to see Keanu back in good form.

I'd like to see Keanu Reeves and Brad Pitt get together for a movie. I think that would be interesting.

I've always liked Keanu. He doesn't have the greatest depth for an actor, but what he does he does do it well.

Loved Keanu in The Matrix, Point Break and Speed and I love my action films. Will have to see if my bro would like to see this with me.

I really don't get the hate though. Both Bill and Ted movies were awesome. Like, if you hate on Keanu for that, you are pretty much the epitome of awful.

He says "I'm thinking I'm back" in one of the trailers but it comes off with any lack of emotion, he's just a very average actor at best. I will give props to "Point break" though, he did a great job there and it's a very underrated film IMO.

In the movie I think the line came off pretty well.

Overall I really enjoyed the movie although, as a dog owner, the dog part was sad
