Me too. He was one of the few country artists that I like. And if you can cover Hurt then you know you are a badass (unconcerned with conventions).

Man, I never like the NiN version, but when I heard this when it came out, it was and still is in my top 5 favorites. I get goosebumps to this day everytime I hear it.

It's interesting to see his video and the Nine Inch Nails video. It seems like Johnny Cash is asking forgiveness (edit-or at the very least acknowledging the pain he has caused) where Reznor seems to embrace those feelings in his music without apology...both are sad.

Honestly, the song sounds RIGHT with Johnny Cash. NIN, not so much.

The NIN version comes across as a defiant 30-something going "OMG MY LIFE SUCKS, AND I CAN ACCEPT THAT!" whereas Johnny Cash lends a "Yeah. That sucked. Too bad I can't change it" kind of attitude to it.

Yep. We're not all teenagers or early 20somethings. I'm on the heavy side of 30 myself.

His cover is better than Trent's original. The song is great, but people tend to relate to it better with Cash due to his history.

As for the Johnny Cash bandwagon, he was great before he died, and still great after. Cash was not as accepted by the public as many would have you believe.
