Isn't it neat how he just threw that in after he gave up on the whole dead-celebrity-bandwagon speal? Best not to feed the troll...

I should have added imo so the e-babies wouldn't cry. And as far as the bandwagon thing, I was commenting on my experience with a lot of people I know.

In response to the Cash Bandwagon post. I can't even say that I'm a fan of Johnny Cash, because I only know of a few of his songs. I have never seen Walk the Line and I know very little about the man. However just seeing this music video makes me want to join the Cash Bandwagon, because it seems to exist for a reason.

The NIN version comes across as a defiant 30-something going "OMG MY LIFE SUCKS, AND I CAN ACCEPT THAT!" whereas Johnny Cash lends a "Yeah. That sucked. Too bad I can't change it" kind of attitude to it.
I agree. It's a beautiful piece of work. An old man preparing to die, wishing he could have lived a better life but accepts what he is. You live and learn, and if he could go through it again he would not have made the same mistakes.

If you have nothing nice to say or are just going to put something or someone down, don't even post...

Cash rocks. His cover of Hurt is absolutely amazing.

Trent just didn't get enough anger into his voice to make it work. Kinda comes off as a whiner. But Johnny's pain is perfect.

As for going back and making better choices, he wouldn't be the artist he was if he didn't make stupid hurtful decisions. So from a purely selfish point of view, I like the decisions he made.

Man in Black, RIP.

Jackson is a great song, too. My first Cash favorite actually. June is good in that song.

I hurt myself today, to see if I still feel

I wouldn't have taken Cash to be a cutter at his advanced age.

Now that I've seen both, Cash's vid is far better than NIN.

NIN is drama, but Cash's is real.

I've shown this music video to many people and one of my friends nailed it when she said that he seems to be saying goodbye to us with this very powerful and emotional performance.

I like NiN quite a bit too but their version of this song, despite being the original, pales in comparison.

Firstly, you don't EVEN qualify to ask that question!

Secondly, I have a question, and the question is, Who thefuck are you, and what have you ever accomplished, that qualifies you to desparage JC in any way? Well, you puke, what have you got to say? :|

This is a great song, and a great video by one of the true visionaries. I can't even watch it without tearing up.

I watched a special a while back, when Walk the Line came out on DVD, about Johnny Cash covering this song. Trent was interviewed as saying he didn't like the idea that a country singer would be covering Hurt, but when the song came out and he heard it/saw the video (can't remember which) for the first time, it just blew him away with the sheer amount of emotion Cash put into the song.

One of the better covers ever done, IMO.

The video itself has to be the most powerful I've ever seen.

Yep.

Other good songs of his are Folsom Prison Blues and a Boy named Sue to name two.
