I have read that there is no cache scanning or anything done by the "spyware" installed with the game. I think calling it spyware is just jumping to conclusions.
They are still spying on your gameplay. They are monitoring which areas of a map are more populated and where a majority of the fighting seems to take place most of the time for each map. That way, they can place some advertisment right in the middle of it.
Maybe people just need to sit back and relax for a second and realize that EA put time, effort and money resources into making this game.

You're kidding right?
Enjoy it for what it is ... a time waster, just like every other game.
Sure, it wastes time. So does sleeping, or eating, or watching a movie, etc. There are several pass-times to involve yourself in and yes, this game pertains itself to the pass-time of gaming. However, I wouldn't say a game that was put out on the market for another money frenzy for EA is just like a game that is put out on the market for a new experience in the gaming industry.

I'm not saying people can't enjoy it, just that EA needs to rethink some of the attributes surrounding it such as price, proper IGA notifications on the outside of the box or at least a guaranteed refund once opened, the games reskinned BF2 look, and the method in which they collect the proper "regions" targeted for corresponding advertising.
Can you put my name in bold with italics and an underline?
LOL!! Sure.

List updated and sent to OP.

I enjoy the battlefield series and have nothing against EA

My two cents. Enjoy!

This is just my opinion, but if they made a quality game to begin with the ads wouldnt bother me so much.

Well I will not be buying it. I was 'beta' testing it (if you can call it that) and never really got that excited by it. Just felt like a rehashed BF2 (now with more bugs and crashing!).

Count me out of this one  I'll wait for Quake Wars or UT2K7 thank you very much!

I wonder if they will ever fix all the bugs and loopholes in BF2 or are they going to forget about it and concetrate on 2142? There are an amazing number of easy to find and use hacks for it. I also see 2142 already has a wall hack and one that makes you show up as a friendly soldier and use the spawn pointswhen you are really an enemy .

Sorry.... bug fixing and correcting game engines aren't profitable. Cranking out half-assed titles full of adware for the sheep to snap up makes more money.

I'm not boycotting it, I'm just not buying it because I don't really want to play it. I thought BF2 sucked once you get over the novelty of playing on a virtual battlefield with vehicles.

I won't buy it but I haven't bought a computer game in years so I don't know if it's really a boycott or just my own normal behavior.

I'm definitely boycotting BF2142. I was one of the suckers and bought EVERYTHING for Bf2. Special Forces, EU, Armored fury, etc.

I even had to upgrade to 2 GB memory for the game to run smoothly.

I put MANY hours into the game as well, but I'm sick of all of the BS that everyone went through with BF2, and I don't want to go through it again. I've actually been meaning to uninstall Bf2 just out of spite, even though they already got my $

Add me to the list, please.

Add me to the list. I love BF2, but I won't so much as play the demo for 2142 until the ads are gone.

Sorry, may be a stupid question, but how exactly are the in-game ads going to show?

Is it just going to be like product placement in movies or something even more offensive, i.e. play stops to show you an ad for cans of N00b'B'Gone or whatever?

I haven't played it(and won't) but I'm fairly positive they will in the form of billboards or posters as in real life. For example, riding through a city in the year 2142 in your tank and there's a billboard beside the road for Viagra or Coke? something stupid like that.

In the Demo, when a round was over there was a mini ad to purchase 2142, giving you screenshots of maps, etc. Who knows probably inbetween rounds there may be some logos and ads?? again, hardly a place to get real answers since this is a boycott thread.

I don't remember that, probably because it crashed every time a new level was supposed to start :disgust:

Add me to the list. I'll buy the game when they either add an option to disable the advertisements or remove them completely.

Probably one of the reasons no one is seeing ads in the game yet is EA/IGA is still gathering regional information on who's playing. Once they get enough info they'll probably start selling the ad space out to companies who are interested. That's just my guess though.

IMO, although it's cool that you get to use different vehicles and stuff, as an FPS, Battlefield is a terrible series. The maps are too huge and open to get any real action going; unless you have a vehicle you spend an hour walking around.
