P1400 is seriously gimped -- wouldn't buy it these days. The P1500 deal isn't bad though ($114).

The P2550 deal was great (used to be $160, and available) but the AVSforum folks sort of killed it already.

Soooooo, aside from the OP, does anybody else wanna comment on this site or the product?

Is it a reputable site?
Is the product decent?
I am willing to deal with firmware updates and stuff. And for 99 bucks I can deal with the discs taking 5 minutes to load up.
Also, it looks like the absolute cheapest US shipping is 21 bucks, just so you guys know.
Am not even sure if I should bother. My TV only goes to 1080i. On the other hand, I dont wanna spend the money for a PS3 or brand new, overpriced player at Best Buy. This may be a good thing for me.

The site is reputable. AVSforum people have been hogging the P2550 deal for a few months now.

P1400 is two generations behind current, is only Profile 1.0, and has some 'quirky' behavior. Used to be that it couldn't even *bitstream* DTS-MA (the lossless codec used in 1/3 of current Blu-Rays), but a firmware update seems to have fixed that. I'd probably spring a few more $ for the P1500 (one generation old) deal on the same site.

Talk about a blast from the past - JS was always throwing the Canadian flag so appearance of the deal seems to be legit.
Yeah or we could ask him to login and post the same deal over at fatwallet - This would authenticate he is in fact legit as well. ;-)

not a bad deal. the shipping to the US is about $20... which puts it at just oveer $100 for the whole thing.

if you just want to watch blu-ray this is not bad. at least the p1400 has the rj-45 port for updates unlike hte p1200.

Its on its way. For a hundred bucks its worth the experiment. I ordered it the cheapest U.S. method so I have no idea how long it will take. For all I know they will take a week to fulfill the order.


Incidentally the deal is still going as of April 1st.
