This isn't the first time Congress has been called out and shamed for turning its back on those who responded to 9/11. Couple years ago the GOP wanted to give those funds to foreign companies as tax breaks. Let's all keep in mind how much the republicans politicized 9/11 to get Dubya back in office, for 6ish years proudly espoused "9/11 + whatever we say = STFU" while committing America's worst foreign policy mistake, prefaced on manipulated intel.

But now 9/11 no longer has the same political value to these fuckers, and with it the people involved are also devalued in their eyes. It's good that they are being reminded again of the human cost of their apathy, but I'm not sure it's going to work this time. Republicans have made it abundantly clear they no longer have any sense of shame. One more reason to clear these fools out in 2020.

The state certainly could help if it wants. But they were responding to a foreign terror attack funded by and executed by foreigners. That seems exactly like a thing that a federal government should handle.
