Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department were called to her home around 2:30 p.m. PT (5:30 p.m. ET) Tuesday on the report of a medical emergency, spokesman Robert Hinojosa said.

"Joni was found unconscious in her home (Tuesday) afternoon. She regained consciousness on the ambulance ride to an L.A. area hospital," according to her official website.

"She is currently in intensive care undergoing tests and is awake and in good spirits. More updates to come as we hear them. Light a candle and sing a song, let's all send good wishes her way."

Her album, Blue, is one of my all-time favorites.

This is news? people passed out all the time, and she is not even that famous.

Yeah, this is news.

Mitchell has deeply influenced fellow musicians in a diverse range of genres, and her work is highly respected by critics. AllMusic said, "When the dust settles, Joni Mitchell may stand as the most important and influential female recording artist of the late 20th century",[7] and Rolling Stone called her "one of the greatest songwriters ever".[8] Her lyrics are noted for their developed poetics, addressing social and environmental ideals alongside personal feelings of romantic longing, confusion, disillusion, and joy.

Honors and rankings just for her album Blue:

In 2001, Blue was ranked #14 on VH1's list of the '100 Greatest Albums of All Time', the highest album by a female artist to appear on the list.[15]

In 2002, Q Magazine named "Blue" the 8th Greatest Album of All-Time by a Female Artist.[16]

In 2003, Blue was ranked #30 on Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time,[17] the highest placement for a female artist

In 2007, Blue was ranked second in Bob Mersereau's book The Top 100 Canadian Albums, behind Neil Young's Harvest (which was the second-place finisher in all three Chart polls)

Blue was also voted #13 on Hotpress Magazine's 'Top 100 Albums Ever', by various other artists

Blue was voted #66 in Channel 4's countdown of the '100 Greatest Albums'

In 2006, Blue was listed among Time Magazine's 'All-Time 100 Albums' [18]

In 1999, Blue was given the honor of a Grammy Hall of Fame award, which is given to recordings that are at least 25 years old and that have "qualitative or historical significance"

In 2004, Pitchfork Media ranked the album #86 on its list "Top 100 Albums of the 1970s".

In 2012, Rolling Stone ranked the album #2 on its list "Women Who Rock: The 50 Greatest Female Albums Of All Time".[19]

Not that famous now because she hasn't been releasing albums but her influence is timeless and undeniable.

Hell I'm 47 and she was essentially before my time but I know how influential she was to the singer/songwriters of her era.

I stopped trying to convince people like you how important people like Joni Mitchell were to music and culture. It's just not worth it. Now I just feel a little bit sorry for you.

I hope she recovers, what an amazing voice she had and she was an extraordinary songwriter.

Who is this Joni Mitchell? Hope she gets better soon, but why is this news? Looks like some hippie hobo to me...

I don't think I have ever listened to any of her music. Does she still play live these days?

I don't think she's toured for quite a long time. We saw her at The Oakdale back in 2000 IIRC.

Mebbe iTunes has her catalog...

I was sorry to see this on the news this morning. Though I haven't listened to her for awhile, I am a huge admirer of her work. She's the real deal. An artist. As Bob Dylan once said, she tells you what time it is.

I especially love her experimental jazz oriented stuff in the seventies like Hejira, and Don Juan's Restless Daughter.

Hope she's all right. She's been battling some weird illness called Morgellans for quite awhile, among other issues over the years.

"They paved paradise and put up a parking lot". Her lyrics from one of her songs I always liked.

Oh, crappy folk music. Not even good folk music. Just "pop folk". kinda like "new country"

you need to lay off the sauce tonight, son. First you rail against the awesomely insane Mad Max movie that is coming out, and now Joni Mitchell?

wtf, man? D:

 I always know when I have no job I just need an acoustic guitar and some weed and someone will follow me.

well, talent helps.

also, having shit for brains is usually not the path to success. (not saying that about you--honestly--just saying. It's not as easy as being a "stoner with a guitar")

But I do know that Joni Mitchell has more musical talent in an eyebrow strand than anyone posting in this thread.
