Penny being a trained Marine should have been the LAST person in the car who felt his life was being threatened by Neely.

If Jordan Neely put his hands on Penny or physically attacked him in some way my opinion would be different.

I'm like 20 planets to the left of AOC and I'm convinced there is absolutely no way this case ends in a conviction.

If there was tons of evidence against Kyle Rittenhouse, and he went free.. so don't get your hopes up.

Because people tend to send statements in a case like this and we're sick of people assaulting us in subways and getting away with it. I'd probably vote for his acquittal too.

That's true but as of today no evidence anyone was assaulted. Except Jordan Neely

Neely didn’t assault anyone. Also, crime in the NYC subway system is lower than it was in 2019, albeit with lower ridership.

When I read things about how people in New York want to acquit this guy because of out of control subway crime my first question is ‘do you ride it?’. It’s just totally divorced from reality.

I guess it’s similar to how people from the south and Midwest think NYC is some crime ridden dystopia despite it being one of the safest big cities in the country.

Or people in South Dakota complaining about the border being overrun as their #1 issue.

Yeah it was funny to see DeSantis come up to NYC to complain about crime. If NYC had crime rates even remotely approaching those of Florida cities it would be considered a national emergency. For example Jacksonville has a murder rate that is almost quadruple NYC's. Orlando is nearly triple NYC. Memphis, TN is about 900% higher than NYC, etc.

Ofcourse I ride it.

Have riden it everyday since the day I started going to Hunter College and then got a job in the City.

Now lately after the crime being out of control.. I personally prefer to go to long island when ever possible but still occasionally have to go to Apicha for medical appointments.

Don't look forward to it. On my last visit.. 1 guy just sat down on a seat on the A train and the black dude behind him got up and just started bashing his skull in without a word.

Not 1 person stopped the guy, most just tried to run the fuck away. I for one am grateful someone showed the criminals they're not invulnerable.

Heck you go to wallgreens and you see thugs just stealing stuff and the police come but they say they can't charge anyone with a crime since it didn't amount to $1000 theft, which is the minimum for the DA to prosecute.

I thought really long and hard about voting for Zeldin last time around because of that but I knew I couldn't support Trump. So I'll just support vigilantes as a juror if I get called!

And my entire neighborhood thinks similarly.. we want our freedoms and rights, but they sure as hell didn't move to America to bring the lawlessness they left behind here because some lame DA won't enforce the law.

Murder is a problem in the bronx and brooklyn.

The problem in the safer parts of town is just general lawlessness and robberies and people dirt biking and ATV's stopping roads everywhere. The cops do nothing!

1) This is totally out of touch with reality. How many days a week do you ride it? I ride it 6-7 days a week and have never experienced anything like that. Moreover, the stats don't lie - subway crime is lower now that it has been for most of your life.

2) As far as your neighborhood thinking similarly, what neighborhood is that?

3) If the police told you that they can't charge anyone with a crime for a theft of less than $1,000 they were lying to you - people are routinely arrested and charged for this. What IS true is that a much lower percentage of thefts lead to arrests now than before but that's because the NYPD has chosen to stop doing their jobs. Don't you think you should be mad at them for lying and refusing to do their jobs?

Murder is a problem anywhere it occurs but if we're just looking at the bad parts of town then Florida murder rates are going to soar even higher.

As far as the dirt bikes go, I agree. This is, once again, because the NYPD has stopped doing their jobs. Traffic citations are way, way lower than pre-pandemic times.

Really the PBA and SBA need to be decertified as unions and we need to get to firing a LOT of cops in NYC. If they don't want to do the job they should quit, not steal taxpayer money for doing nothing.

Let's support the cops not doing their jobs because they lack character and decency by voting in literal pieces of shit like Zeldin that will let them get away with murder and be the corrupt cops they want to be. What a position to hold.

1. I doubt it.. was horrible pre-91 broken windows..
stayed good/ acceptably good till covid, then out of control.
Is it getting better with every week? Probably but you just hope you don't run into a mentally unstable person.

2. Queens near the E train

3. Of course I'm mad at them, not only terrorizing the employees but that's why every department store is marking up prices so I end up having to pay way more to compensate for their robberies..

What crime did Neely commit on the subway besides annoy people and display erratic behavior?

What you call erratic behavior is invading other people's space and flailing with uncontrolled aggression to others.

Zeldin is not the answer.. but even I thought long and hard about it.

Apparently I was not alone -- why the hell did NYC areas lose 4 congressional districts.. it wasn't the economy, it wasn't wearing masks.. it was uncontrolled crime!

I just hope we don't have a Giulliani repeat where someone like him comes around -- who's a total scumbag with the promise, if you vote me in, I'll be hard on the thugs and kick them out of the city!

That kinda politician can still make inroads in a very left leaning City metropolis..

sorta like Rome suspending democracy and electing a dictator to clean up the mess.

City chose Adams for it.. but I don't think he's done enough yet to earn re-election.

Subway crime is substantially lower today than it was in 2012. Did you consider 2012 to have out of control crime?

Doesn't it bother you that the NYPD is lying to citizens about not being able to arrest or charge people for thefts of less than $1,000, and apparently blaming it on the DA? The problem is the NYPD is out of control.

2012 especially after Sandy was a horrible time to ride the subways. You could smell poop on the subways as people didn't have homes.. so you understood it would take time for the City to go back to normal.

And yes I am upset, but at least I did my part and voted for Katz last year to improve things instead of Tiffany Caban.

BTW the TV propaganda is one thing.. trying to make it seem the migrant mess is a real mess and it may be but people tend to be a little more affected by what they encounter in real life.

If you take a different subway route than me.. you might have a totally different viewpoint.

FFS someone living in the bronx would say its totally safe and I look at the murder and shooting rates and say I don't even wanna go to Yankee Stadium anymore.

The crime in NYC is uncontrolled? Sounds like Fox News talking. Where are the videos of this total anarchy 24/7?

CrimeinNYC is a good twitter account that posts stuff that other people send in.. RW account though but the videos are authentic.

As for me, I don't upload videos but maybe I should.. just went to get pizza 2 nights ago with my wife and a car ran red lights ignoring the flow of traffic. Actually have that on my dash cam.

Then other people jaywalking as we're driving basically daring people to hit them with their car.

The Bronx definitely has a higher crime rate than the rest of NYC but it's still about half that of Jacksonville. Also, 2012 was just one year, crime in the subway today is lower than basically all the 2010s.

I think the biggest culprits for people thinking crime in NYC is out of control are 1) retail thefts that the NYPD ignores as you mentioned and 2) the fact that our idiot mayor has been telling the entire city that crime is out of control even when it isn't.

Yeah I don't mind people wanting to commit suicide but not via my car please.. kindly leave me and my wife alone!

I had a green light and it just went across me.. sorta like that really bad crash in Brooklyn a week or 2 ago that was all over the news.

I got to say the truth.. we got lucky.

Twitter account posting video's is where I would go if I wanted an accurate account of the crime rate.

I'm in 100% agreement with you, that most of those videos are bullshit but there's enough reality there.. that I just can't ignore it anymore especially when it is LOCAL.

Sometimes you have to admit the hard thing is actually acknowleding some of the twitter stuff is REAL and not just propaganda.

Am I voting Republican? FUCK NO!

Penny being a trained Marine should have been the LAST person in the car who felt his life was being threatened by Neely.

If Jordan Neely put his hands on Penny or physically attacked him in some way my opinion would be different.

The prolonged use of the chokehold was egregious even if you make the argument that the guy was acting erratic and was being pre-emptively restrained. Which I don't think is even a legal argument, but I understand where it would be coming from.

Have you ever been put in a chokehold? When done correctly, you pass out within seconds. There was plenty of time to release the hold and otherwise restrain the guy. This was 15 minutes of no blood flow to the guy's brain.

What message does this send? That you can just kill someone because you felt threatened? Someone looked at you the wrong way? Accidentally bumped into you?

Look I understand the guy was saying crazy shit and IMO I would probably have had no problem if he just been restrained after the hold was released...but 15 minutes is just crazy. I know conservatives hate the homeless but I didn't believe they thought it was ok to indiscriminately kill them off.

Then again, that one RW pundit did say "be prepared to kill everyone you meet," so that kind of gives you an insight into their psychology. And if this is what they think of mentally ill and/or homeless people (some of the most vulnerable in our society), do you think they care about the rest of us?
