I haven't seen the video, but I follow the line you run here.

ISIS is intelligent enough to know the response to a beheading of an American. Result would not be for America to yeild. It would embroil many of us to drop the gdmn'd hammer on ISIS. So why do the video?

This is the same mind set as Hamas w/ respect to Gaza.

Create sympathy and support from the fight against the greater Satan; the cost of lives matters not. The local support and prestige is what matters to control the locals.

ISIS isn't a joke. Can they edit video? Fuck yes they can. While the bulk of their army is angry cavemen, ISIS management has proven they could run a fortune 500 company. They're educated, determined, and organized.

Maybe they should take over comcast customer service.

One of the most distubing thing to me is our media's absolute shock and awe and continual headliner of this story.

id say its more fear and relevancy driven. I.E., lets punish innocents for the crimes of another. Stop your crimes, well stop punishing innocents. And how can people hear our message? lets record the killing and let the media distribute the message for us.

im sure several people dont even want us involved in any mideast politics....thiscan fuel that flame. also, it may be that ISIS wants a bigger fight...so any response by the US is more relevancy for them. These videos accomplish a variety of tasks that terrorizt organizations want.

I cant imagine how gruesome it is to saw a blade through a living humans neck.
You have to be one sick medieval motherfucker.

And now we get to debate the ills of actually doing anything vs just letting this terrorist organization continue to terrorize.

Obama's speech this afternoon will have them quaking in their boots. It's as much as over.

Yeah let's just invade without thinking with a media campaign behind the invasion without regard to the fact that perhaps a group twice as bad will come in....

We've seen that movie before....

Kurdish forces have had success so far with air support. Once IS artillery and armored vehicles are destroyed by air support perhaps the Kurdish will continue that success.

I've actually been pleasantly surprised how effective air strikes have been but it makes sense. If they're trying to expand, it's going to expose their forces to attack. It's the opposite of holing up on your home territory. I wonder if they were as naive as the Taliban in thinking they could stand up in a direct military conflict.

Of course slowing them is one thing, removing them from Iraq is another thing and removing them from their prior territory possibly impossible. But as far as this limited support in stopping their advance with minimal US personal risk - good so far.

The administration now has a convenient excuse to continue offensive air strikes and buy time for the Kurds and Iraqi government to get their shit together.

Good assessment. I concur.

The problem with nukes, is that it has to be unannounced.

If there is any notice given, to allow innocents to escape, well ISIS will actually get out of there first, and likely the only deaths will be of innocents unable to leave the area.

So the only way to get rid of ISIS is to have a nuke dropped without any sort of warning at all, not even to cooperative local governments. It has to be done for the greater good of the area, and eventually when there are new inhabitants, they need the gentle guiding hand of the rest of the free world to ensure peaceful interactions with the rest of the world and within the area itself.

Obama, don't tell us when, don't get congressional approval, just hit the button and cleanse us of this evil. We thank you.

Glassing the desert is a fantasy.
The threat would have to be far more significant, far more realized, before we'd resort to killing so many people sitting in their homes.

If terrorists frighten you then focus on home. Here in America, how our domestic policy can uproot and dispense with them. Figure out how to turn the Muslim community away from violence and away from ISIS.

PS, I don't think nuking the desert would help in that regard.

That's an awfully casual attitude you have to the use of nuclear weapons.

Don't like the nuke idea? Ok then.
How about forcing ISIS to appear on the Discovery Channel Survival Show NAKED AND AFRAID?

PS. Why does this seem like a problem that Apple should be working on?

Out of curiosity, your suggestions as to what he should be doing?
1) Take a cue from David Cameron and cancel your vacation. Attempt to at least make us think you care enough about the nation to put it before yourself.

2) When you address the nation and the world, put on a damned tie. Make yourself look presidential and it will help you to come across as presidential instead of some lounge singer.

3) Do not run off to the golf course immediately after your brief speech about an act of war committed against our nation. Try to at least pretend that this nation is more important than your golf game.

4) Take a stand. Try to appear that you have an anger seething in your veins against a group of religious fanatics that has essentially declared war against our nation and its people. Don’t give noncommittal speeches that say nothing and mean nothing just because some staffer feels you should just...say something. If you don't care, stay quiet.

5) If you will not put boots on the ground to fight this enemy, that’s fine but don’t tell them that that is the case. Don’t give our enemy deadlines for what we’re going to do whether it be bombing or pulling out of troops and never, never, tell them what you will not do. Make them believe that the U.S. is willing to go to whatever lengths are necessary in the fight against them.

6) Quit worrying about offending Muslims. Islamist fanatics have declared us to be their enemy. They have declared their intentions to include the control of our nation including flying their flag over the White House. They are Muslims and they are already offended. Stop kissing their asses.

7) Fire up the drones and whatever other airpower is available and bomb every last one of these stone age thinking motherfuckers back to the motherfucking stone age. Let them know the cost of publicly beheading our citizens. Defend our nation or resign.

8) Lastly, stop the concern for how the world perceives us. Being the most popular country in the world is the last thing our nation should be concerned with. This is not High School. We give huge amounts of aid to the nations of the world and we’ve been the bad guys forever and we may very well continue to be the bad guys. We’re not vying to be Prom Queen of the world. If X nation is unhappy with us, it’s their problem not ours.

Aaaand I'm glad folks like you are not in charge. First you throw out a few style over substances items. Yes - Obama wearing a tie will scare those IS bastards away. But the simple minded do love their rhetoric.

Second - the US cannot fix or defeat this enemy with military power. Almost every time we've tried, something worse has sprung up to take its place. America cannot and should not try to "solve" this problem with raw force - the only way there will ever be anything close to peace in the area is for a political and ethnic coalition to be formed and for their own people to take back their country.

If the US can help them accomplish this with acceptable risk, I can support it. But it's a child's fantasy that dropping more bombs can ever creating a lasting peace in the ME. The absolute last thing we want is to for Iraq to return to its previous status quo with endless political and ethnic infighting - a decisive US result could very well take away the very pressure that's forcing them to wake up to reality there.

My take the president needs to worry about his brand. He will be making money for many years to come as long as he does not offend any of his fanbase. Look at HClinton $200,000 plus per speech and what great accomplishments are on her resume??
Maybe another beer summit is needed D: for the Missouri crisis and the developing ISIS/Iraq debacle.

Ok, thanks for answering. Was hoping for an answer with some substance rather than a list of empty platitudes though.

Well this is our reward for bombing ISIS in the first place. I was on the record for staying out of this but no, we just had to get involved. This innocent man paid the price for our hubris. We should take a lesson from this debacle and get the hell out.
