ISIS didn't just pop up overnight. This administration has had to have known about ISIS for some time before it even made the 24/7 news cycle.

Yet he goes on TV and proclaims his administration is still formulating a strategy. He's had options laid out in front of him by his cabinet/joint chiefs/state dept even before it hit the news cycle.

The problem is he is indecisive, overtly political, and lacking the character of leadership.

Obama wants no part of a new action that might hurt his party, which is the most important thing. Having said that, we really need to avoid Bush mistakes of going in alone. No Coalition of the Bribed. The US public wants no go it alone strategy, so Obama being a politician will bluster until something really bad happens and people scream for action. Give it a while. Although done for the wrong reasons this seems necessary.

Reminds me of the time when I was in 'Nam and I got a really good look at a 52 Arc Light strike on a mountain ridge while I was at a firebase set up on a small bluff adjoining another mountain range quite a number of miles away.

There are no words that I can conjure up to describe the sense of utter devastation and those awesome and alarming shockwaves those bombing runs create. I actually felt sorry for those enemy troops getting caught out in the open like that. And that only happened because the shorty howitzers the fire base had didn't have enough range to reach out and touch those sorry bastards. Amazing considering that I was told by the FAC attached to the firebase that there was only a half dozen 52's in the sortie with some F-4's flying cap.

So ISIS functions like a well oiled machine. Like one of the above posters said, their leaders could run a Fortune 500 company, because no other terrorist organization has driven not just one legitimate nation, but two, to the fences like ISIS has.

But I'm curious. Why would ISIS go as far as to provoke the United States into a war? Surely their leaders understand that despite their military prowess, their gains have largely been made based off of an absence of leadership; both Iraq and especially Syria are militarily compromised. If we actually put ISIS up against a real military like Turkey's, Iran's, or the IDF, they would melt away. And despite Turkey, Iran, or Israel's military potential, these are just regional powers. I don't say this to sound high and mighty whatsoever, but is it really that smart to rattle the cage of the world's sole military superpower?

Surely there's some other intent here.

Thank you for asking. The answer is simple. They want America to blunder in and kill another 100.000 innocent civillians. Everytime America involves itself in genocidal warfare in the Middle East, it creates thousands of brand new jihadis. Nothing nurtures the growth of radical Islam more than American medddling. ISIS recognizes this and is hoping to taunt America into another meaningless and stupid war.

The same goal as Bin Laden had.

As said on Wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osama_bin_Laden

Bin Laden's overall strategy against much larger enemies such as the Soviet Union and United States was to lure them into a long war of attrition in Muslim countries, attracting large numbers of jihadists who would never surrender. He believed this would lead to economic collapse of the enemy nations.[71] Al-Qaeda manuals clearly express this strategy. In a 2004 tape broadcast by al-Jazeera, bin Laden spoke of "bleeding America to the point of bankruptcy".[72]

Seems like that tactic is fairly solid and has been working.

suppose he can call it his idea but

President Obama squashed the Republican chorus that is calling for more U.S. military involvement in Iraq. John McCain, Lindsey Graham and other Republicans went on national television to call for a return to the war in Iraq as a matter of national security. Sen. Graham (R-SC) went so far as to claim that an American city would burn if Obama did not come with a stronger military response.
Obama’s answer was a firm restatement of his belief that there is no U.S. military solution in Iraq and that peace has to be arrived at through Iraqis coming together to solve their own problems. The failure of the Bush administration’s plan to spread democracy in the Middle East one war at a time proves that peace and democracy can only flourish when the majority decide that they are committed to these outcomes.

the president of Chechnya knows how to properly respond to the isis savages.

http://rt.com/news/184836-isis-putin-kadyrov-syria/

Ramzan Kadyrov, the flamboyant President of the Chechen Republic, which is a highly-autonomous part of Russia, reacted angrily to the video.

“Those bastards have nothing to do with Islam. They are enemies of Muslims everywhere,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

“Whoever dares to threaten Russia and say out loud the name of our President Vladimir Putin will be destroyed right where he is… These people will end their days under the hot sun of Syria and Iraq and moments after death they will be greeted by the flames of eternal hell.”

in addition to this, SITE cofounder Rita Katz is now telling CNN that they released the beheading video before ISIS had a chance to. how convenient.
