OK Hot boys,

This is going to be a long term project (3- 4 month contract).

Quick update:

- I recently exchanged my Focal CMS40 for CMS50 speakers ($1500). These put out 260 watts and has marvelous mid range clarity, detail and wide soundstage. The CMS40 was equally as good if not better, but the power output is insufficient. CMS50 is the keeper.

- Returned the Benchmark DAC-1 USB DAC due to downgrade in sound.

- No plan for upgrading the RCA cables for the first year.

I am going to try out the Synergistic Research Tesla SE Precision ($2300+) as a home-trial through thecableco. The cable will run from wall outlet to the powerstrip. This means I will need a new powerstrip as well, as my current one does not have a male input. The email has been sent to Joe for my request. They charge 5% of the cost of the value of the cable (used) so it will be small amount. I will keep you guys informed with the updates!

Stay tuned...........

Let me know how they work out for you. I'm in the market for some new power cables.

Fail so see how a $2000 power cable is going to make a sound system better when the power lines behind the wall are cheap.

is this a joke?
Sir, I am not joking. I *was* planning for a big audio cable upgrade but I won't get full potential out of it because the bottleneck is the dirty stinky power line. D: So I am going for the power cable first. The audio cable upgrade will be the last thing.

Young man, it's $2300+ (for longer lengths) not $2000. It doesn't matter if power line is dirty behind the wall outlet as the power cable will filter the bad stinky noise (frequencies other than 60 hz) that your hardware does not wish to have. You don't need to worry about cleaning power line outside.

Thank you NutBucket for the kind post. I've got a reply from Joe (thecableco) and he says the 8 footer of Tesla Precision SE is not available for trial and the 5 footer is available for $90. I don't know if I want to pay that much for a trial..... not refundable.

I have lots of power cables in mind..... just can't decide easily as the money does come into factor. I spent so much money already I don't have any cash left (after paying my bills, gas, food, cat treat, etc etc etc). If I were to get one soon it will have to be charged.

- Shunyata Research Venom 3 ($75)
- Wireworld Silver Electra 5-2 ($550+)
- Cullen Cable Crossover Series ($200 introductory price)
- Synergistic Research Tesla Precision SE ($2300+)
- Coconut-Audio White Night Power 5m ($2500 introductory price, $2000 used from Patrick)

There are other cable manufacturers / models that I would like but it's too expensive. No introductory prices as they are big companies.

As for the powerstrip, this is what I have in mind. Any recommendation for any other?

Wireworld Matrix2 Powerstrip ($119)

sigh, MAYBE if you had speakers in the $50,000+ range you could start making arguments about power cabling.

But you don't, so try upgrading the components that actually matter before buying snake-oil cables.

Ok, i know i should stay out of this, but with the amount of crap i've been reading about cables lately, i just can't resist.

So you're actually admitting they're doing something special to these cables to "filter" out the dirty noise from the power grid? By saying this, you're also saying your nice, and probably fairly expensive, receiver and or power strip/protector can't filter this noise for shit? I find this hard to believe.

Edit: i'm not going to spend much time looking it up, but based on your picture, why is this expensive cable lacking a ground wire? I see it has a drain wire, but it doesn't appear to provide a ground for your system. maybe i'm just missing the ground prong on the other end.

You don't have to have $50k speakers to hear the difference in sound with the high-end power cords. Speaker-to-cable ratio wise it may sound logical but that doesn't mean you have to follow that idea. The proof is in the hearing by users so they enjoy eargasm. What you would need is a good set of speakers and a subwoofer to fully appreciate the benefit.

That is correct. The powerstrip won't do well filtering all that unwanted frequencies / noise. Some power conditioners do better job than the conventional powerstrip but some can perform worse. Best is to get a simple good quality powerstrip and a high-end power cord (wall outlet to powerstrip). Medium-end power cords can be used from powerstrip to the audio equipment. I will probably pickup Wireworld Stratus power cords for that.

That's not good. Better than nothing, but it won't do any good job filtering bad noise. Plus it doesn't even have a male connector input. That stuff is used for average Joe mom and pops and grandpas who are not audiophiles.

im not too worried about filtering noises since it's used for the power reclining feature in my chairs.

you don't need a cable, you need a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Band-pass_filter

but this thread is pointless anyways, go run over to head-fi, they'll appreciate your cables there

OP...I think you'd be better off with a Nordost Odin power cable. I run those for all my electronics.

Don't send him over to head-fi, I like that place . I steer clear of the cables forum though.
I am a member there and am already famous. Sorry.:\

Those are the top reference model (well over $10k) from Nordost aren't they? Very nice. I actually respect that manufacturer too. But when compared to the Coconut-audio it will get beat by it.

How reliable are these high-end power cords? Meaning how long can they be used? Anyone has info / insight on this or the ones that have experience in this area? I would appreciate it!

Yes. Theyre actually $34,000.

I actually forgot to put a sarcasm tag in my first post. Oops. I actually would never spend more than about $10 for a power cable, as all my theater gear filters for me, and I believe most of the power cable hype is snake oil. I'll respectfully leave it at that.

But, good luck on your search

Sorry for quoting my own post. OK nevermind it appears to be "Ford built tough", the rattlesnake power cable in this case. It took him all day to get to the wire using chain saw and such.

Nordost Odin is like Valhalla with shielding. I have made a lot of experiments with Nordost cables. They only changed the flavor of sound. In the end I cut the Valhalla shorter and shorter because I got better sound, then I switched to stock cable and got even better sound. Air dielectric in power cables isn't good because the conductor is vibrating from AC (Alternate Current) power, this makes it hollow and thin sounding with less microdetail. When microdetail is removed, it sounds cleaner, but very veiled. After a few years I couldn't stand that sound anymore.

The best for power cables is dampening material around the cable, the opposite of what Nordost is doing. This increases microdetail instead of reducing it, while sounding cleaner. I don't know what Nordost is thinking when they design their cables.
