this guy said it best:

"This is allowing sites like MySpace to avoid the responsibility to make the Internet safe for children," Jason Itkin said. "MySpace knows its Web site is a playground for sexual predators. Because of that, MySpace should be doing some very basic safety precautions."

Please, he has a very valid point, MySpace is responsible for this 13 year old of being attacked. If they had proper security measures in place this never would have happend.

It's not MySpaces job to raise children it's the parents job. If parents can not keep track of what their children are doing on the internet then why should MySpace be blamed for it.

Personally MySpaces is just part of the dumbing down of America, The few time that I've checked out sites there I almost through up with all the crap on peoples pages.

I think it's hilarious that the girl's parent's were suing. They can't stop their own daughter from meeting up with with a stranger, but they expect myspace to be able to do it.

What exactly do they think myspace could have done?

how about making all users send in a notorized document saying their true age. that would be good enough to stop kids from doing stupid things. MySpace should do something to protect the kids. their lax business practice is just pathetic.

thats a good first step.

they should also send out someoen to fingerprint the person. Also if they are female post a guard in the hose so nobody can assault them.

also have a live in nanny since the parents are to fvcking lazy to parent.

I think myspace should be sending out a rep to interview the prospective user before allowing access. I think this and the aforementioned security measures would be good enough. The parents should in no way be responsible for what their children are doing on the internet.

Blaming Myspace for this is like blaming Doom for all those murders they have ever blamed it on. Damn just raise your kids right and you wont have to worry about it.

I propose mandatory DNA testing to confirm the identity of anyone signing up for MySpace. The girl's lawyer will generously agree to use the entire $30M to help cover the costs, because he's doing this for the children, not the money.

But not to worry. the defence lawyer is going to keep filling lawsuits until he wins!

"Over the next several weeks, Loewy plans to file five more cases on behalf of families in California court. He doesn't expect that to be the end of the litigation--over 50 families have contacted the firm about the suits."

I'm pretty sure a 19 year old guy attacked her, not an internet social meeting site.

Myspace shouldn't be responsible if people lie to sign up, they do have protection if you don't LIE about your age.

It's not just MySpace, it's the whole internet! Everyone should be forced to submit two state-issued forms of identification, fingerprints, and a retinal scan before being allowed to access any site on the internet. Especially ATOT. Everyone knows that this place is haven for sexual perverts. Parents can't possibly protect their children from all possible internet harm!
