They do fly litigants and witnesses to NYC for taping the episodes, usually a couple of nights' stay as well, along with money for food.

My cousin was on an episode, several years ago. I've never seen it, though.

True, the daytime TV demographic is not highly coveted and ad rates reflect that. Daytime TV is a lot cheaper than primetime. An average primtime program will cost $110,000 per 30-second spot while a highly rated series can be $400,000+ and the Super Bowl over $2 million. In daytime TV $50,000 is a lot and average is probably half that. But Judy is pretty highly rated, so be conservative and call it $35,000 per spot. 8 minutes of advertising per half hour show, $560,000 per first run episode. They do about 250 episodes per year, that's $140 Million dollars a year in first run ad revenue alone not counting syndication.

She jarrs me out though, it's sometimes amusing to see some of the idiots who bring stupid problems to court. Some of the cases are really idiotic and you can tell from her tone she's thinking to herself "seriously?!"

I think the 1%r mark is a little over $325k/year. She's making what the top 5% makes in a year in an hour though.

As the judge it's her perogative to weigh whatever she was provided or not, if the two at the trial don't give her anything to work with...she just can't say you both win.

I think you're forgetting that you don't see all the evidence, but she does. She gets written statements from both parties and any witnesses. During taping, she questions them only on things that aren't clear or are in dispute, or just make for good TV.

So I can see why you wouldn't understand her decisions sometimes, but no one watches that show for the decisions, anyway.
