Has anyone here actually seen it?
Did. Shouldn't have.
A mesh mash of strangeness.
Old world Russian family (or were they Italian?), toss in a little Star trek, the worst of THIS IS THE END, Astro-Boy's jet boots, some human feathered wings, the lackluster comedy from a sitcom, a whole lot of green-screen, and an ending where they both go flying off into the sunset, and there you have it.
How sweet.
First off, Mila Kunis should have NEVER been casted for this film. Then add into the mesh mash by casting Channing Tatum cause they must have paid him nearly their entire budget to get Tatum to go along.
Mila Kunis is fine for a chick-flick bordering on a prime-time sitcom. But Sci-Fi? No no no no.
I can't imagine how often Channing Tatum must have broken up laughing during the filming of his scenes. But guess we will have to wait for the DVD outtakes for those moments.
And who says all aliens must look like skinny, earless, shriveled up grayed skinned grandpa-like things? Stereo-typing?
Just maybe the true aliens look more like Prince i.e. the Artist Formerly Known as Prince, or Lady Gaga?
Prince and Gaga seem more like the true aliens than hairless gray skinned grandpas.
I will say one positive for this film.
Eddie Redmayne's role and acting.
Fresh from his other film, The Theory of Everything, Eddie Redmayne really appeared like he was the only adult in the room taking this idea of acting seriously.
He was the only one that didn't need to hide under their seat at the premier of Jupiter Ascending. Even though he must have felt completely side swiped by what he was told originally about doing this film, and the end result on the screen.
I really felt sorry for him.
He did good for his part.
What they should have done is save Eddie Redmayne and his role played in this film for the next episode of an Star Trek movie.
The next Star Trek film revolving around Eddie Redmayne's and his character in Jupiter Ascending would have been a great follow-up to the Star Trek movie series.
With casting Eddie Redmayne playing this same Jupiter Ascending role, the Sci-Fi bad guy, as the center point of the next Star Trek plot would have made an absolute hit Trekkie film.
Save Mila Kunis for some chick flick film, and Channing Tatum for his next Magic Mike character, or another 23 Jump Street follow-up.
As far as the green-screen special effects, yeah ok, maybe a little above average for your basic space flick, but no way stunning enough to carry this turkey out of its own black hole.
I was very impressed with Eddie Redmayne.
He just needs to learn how to choose and pick his projects more wisely, in the future.
This is one of those flicks that will be available for purchase on Vudu before it even leaves the theater.
And in the $5 DVD bin ($7.50 Blu-Ray) at Wal-Mart come this Spring.
