In that case, it wouldn't even have to be a dinosaur. Rather, it would be combining traits of species we already have a better understanding of.
If zoos aren't doing that for public attractions, JP shouldn't be doing it.
It just seems silly.
That... seems to be exactly what they are doing.
Making a new dinosaur that is, in fact, a hybrid.
And zoos currently are not doing it because our understanding of genetics at that level is extremely immature.
Geneticists/scientists have, unless I am mistaken, created new species of bacteria, essentially hybrids.
Mankind is stupid enough to tinker with things we shouldn't. If we could actually create dinosaurs from imperfect genetic material, you can bet your ass at some point, someone would create a hybrid.
Hybrid animals exist in nature already, and breeders sometimes breed pairs for that purpose (e.g. ligers et all). That's really the best we can do for the time being, mess around with species that are already genetically compatible. I highly doubt mankind could hold back in that itch to outdo nature once we have a better understanding and technology. We'll create brand new crops from scratch once we have the ability, I guarantee it.
Whether anyone will be successful with creating a species that can survive the test of time, and if deemed important, breed genetically perfect offspring, only time will tell.
