In most states, the selection of names is pulled directly from voter registration lists. Basically, if you want to vote, in return you do jury duty.

here in CA, if you have a drivers license, then you qualify for jury duty as well.

In WA I got summoned for jury duty and was fully planning on going. A few days before something happened at work and several people were fired and I was told I couldn't possibly go. Called up and said I couldn't go a few seconds later the lady said they had more than enough jurors and that i was excused from serving.
