Otherwise you need excuses like you are going to school full time (bring a transcript with your credit hours listed). I was allowed to postpone it by saying I had a lot of projects at work I've already committed to.

In most states, the selection of names is pulled directly from voter registration lists. Basically, if you want to vote, in return you do jury duty.

Gee, and here I was thinking that voting was a right. Silly me.

I usually get a summons for jury duty once every year, or every other year. I got out of it a couple times, but then once I decided to go. Boy was that a waste of my entire day and it threw off my entire work week.

If you don't have a valid excuse to get out of it, then you gotta go, and hope they don't pick you.

here in CA, if you have a drivers license, then you qualify for jury duty as well.

Still have to be a U.S. citzen.

It runs until they dismiss you.

No you can't sign something and leave, you stay till the judge dismisses you.

Penalty for not showing up is a bench warrant, Judges can be really nasty about this or not care, its totally up to them and what kind of day they are having.

Legitimate reasons for not showing up are medical related, like you better be in the hospital.

One of the quickest ways to get dismissed from jury service is to fall asleep while they are picking jurors. If they pick you and you fall asleep during trial the judge can throw you in jail.

In WA I got summoned for jury duty and was fully planning on going. A few days before something happened at work and several people were fired and I was told I couldn't possibly go. Called up and said I couldn't go a few seconds later the lady said they had more than enough jurors and that i was excused from serving.

Give them a call, worse that happens they say you gotta go in.

Just as a reminder, if your boss refuses to let you go to Jury duty you should go and if you are fired or in any way punishec your boss will be spending some time in jail. It is against the law for your employer to bar you from jury duty.

my understanding on this is that defense lawyers dont like it because, just in case they fvck up, their clients won't get the chair from blood thirsty jurors.

I was summoned to jury duty for Sacramento Co. and the summons provides a phone # to call the day before to make sure that you're still needed. I called the day before and the machine said I didn't have to come and my jury duty service was done
