Call jury administration, apologize and offer to serve immediately to make up for the day you missed. If you're lucky they'll just take the replacement date and let you skate without a fine. If you ignore it there's going to be a bench warrant out for your arrest and you're going to be in a world of hurt somewhere down the road.
There *may* be a benchwarrant. Jury duty enforcement happens semi-randomly, not every person who doesnt show automatically gets a warrant. But yet, call the court and tell them you forgot, they should let you reschedule.
Maybe in California, but here in Texas, the clerk will try calling you a couple times, at whatever phone number(s) you provided in your jury information card (you get this when you're summoned, and send it back to them with your info, which tells them also that you're acknowledging your summons to jury duty). If they can't get ahold of you, the judge will send a sheriff's deputy out to your home & work. If they find you, you get to visit the judge.......in handcuffs! .....and explain your absence. Yeah, they don't screw around down here, and consider jury duty to be a civil duty you have to take seriously.
What's almost as much fun, is to watch people come up with an excuse to get out of jury duty. Believe me, if you have a good one, you're excused. But people come up with some pretty lame excuses, and get shot down pretty easily!
