looks like I am back on there roster, weak! I opted out last time, but I can only opt out once, or I can be fined or put in jail, too bad classes are over when it starts -_-.

how long should I expect to be there? hopefully I don't actually have to do jury crap and can just go back to work, thoughts from people who have had to serve this beautiful democratic system ?

Just remember, if you ever need a jury, it'll be filled with people just like you.

Jury Duty is quite a pain, but on the flip side it a very good thing we do in this country. I serve whenever I am called.

Normally you wait 3-4 hours before being called, then you are interviewed, if selected most cases are a day or two. If you don't want to be selected just casually mention your brother is a lawyer in industry x, x must pertain to the case.

I enjoyed jury duty. I think when I went it was two days that I was required to be there, before being selected as a juror. If you didn't get selected after the two days, you were done. If you did, you stuck around for the duration of the trial.

If you get on a jury, take notes. I was a little concerned for the justice system when I noticed I was the only one on my jury to do so. Perhaps more concerned about the woman sitting next to me who kept falling asleep.

You may not have to be there at all. We have to call in each day and see if they need us. If not, we stay home.

All day. I just had my second round of jury duty, but I didn't get selected this time. They interview you, and if they don't want you for that particular case, they throw you back into the pool.

I get to go for my first time next month. $35/day + I get my full normal salary (nice boss) + mileage and parking is paid. I get a couple weeks off of work. And I get to experience something new. It should be interesting to see the whole process.

But, I am of course stupid for doing my American duty.

I received my first jury notice this week, I report next month as juror #50. I look forward to participating in the process BUT there is a real problem with people that shirk the duty, it removes the "peer" aspect of a fair and impartial jury. I think it may be time to experiment with professional jurors.

If you really don't wanna do it, just answer something biased during the interviews. they even ask you if you tihnk you're gonna be fair, just say no for whaetever reason and you're off the case.

I just served last week. We only get $6 a day. I was on a DWI case and only had to wait about 20-30 min before they called my group of 25 to go into a courtroom for questions from both sides. Then they elimated the ones they wanted too and the first 6 were on the jury and 1 alternate. I was the first one picked and ended up being the foreman/presiding juror. I'm sure I won't be on that guy's Christmas card list after signing off on his guilty verdict.

well it seems that the majority on here thinks that if you are stuck doing jury duty, you are too stupid to get out.

I've been called a couple times; once about 10 years ago when I was fresh out of college, and once about 2 years ago.

The first time I went and sat through ~ 3 days of jury selection. I was never even called up to be questioned by either side for whatever reason. It was a dreadful experience. IIRC you can't even read in the courtroom. You have to just sit there.

The last time I was called I didn't even go. *shrug* I guess it's a big deal to not go but nothing happened to me.

Tell them you know the guy, and that you heard about the case... he's definitely guilty. They pretty much have to let you go.

It depends completely on how your county does things. In mine, you go in the first day, then call after 6pm every day after that to see if they need you. That is, of course, unless you get picked on a jury the first day. I've been selected for two juries, one went three days the other went five days.
