Hi guys

All of a sudden my computer is slooooow when accessing the hard drive. It loads Windows just fine, but as soon as I try to load my profile, hard disc performance is abysmal. I can boot fine in safe mode.

I started killing every process I did not know in Task Manager, and it seems like jusched.exe is the culprit. Does anyone of you know this file and which program uses it?

after quick google search, it seems that it's Sun Java Update Scheduler. To disable it, go to Java in your CP and find someway to disable auto updates most likely unchecking a box or something. I don't know exactly since I never installed Sun Java

It checks for Java updates from Sun.com. You can disable it from checking (and running) by doing the following:

The jusched.exe automatic update scheduler is relatively new [j2re1.4.2_04] and by default is loaded set to check for java updates from Sun every month after installation. The process is nearly always sleeping, but eats up 2.4 Mb of RAM . Rare problems when it attempts to phone home for updates. Default behavior easily changed through the Control Panel - Java Plug In - Update tab - uncheck "Check for Updates Automatically" and be sure to press the "Apply" button before closing the applet.

Reboot afterward and see if it has stopped running.

Thanks guys. Apparently my Java installation was screwed. I reinstalled and it works fine now.

@Jeffito123. Doh! How could I forget Google? It's late I suppose.

If you never want jusched.exe to start up again (and why would you, you can always check on the Sun site for updates) do this:

start/run/msconfig/startup/ uncheck jusched. You can always reverse that at any time by checking it.
